There doesn't seem to be any new curved TVs coming out in 2014.

I take it they were a flop?

There were many shown at CES in January. They probably just haven't made it to full production yet.

In general, though, a curved screen is best for people sitting along the centerline -- e.g. for individuals with high-end gaming rigs. The image will be significantly distorted at the nearest side if you're sitting off-center.

LG has curved OLED sets however Samsung is coming out with 3 curved LED sets this year most of the curved Sammies will have flat screen equivalent models.

I think that's a niche market but some may find value there .

And I think Sony dropped its curved TV from the 2014 line-up...?

Samsung doesn't seem to think it's a flop and is doubling down this year as indicated above (apparently based on some conducted research). AFAIC, the curve is form over function at these sizes unless you're the lone viewer.

Typical of Samsung to market curved sets for some differentiation ,they like to be everywhere in the market not necessarily a bad thing in their position .
