Hello lovely people of the interwebs!

My name is Jonny, I am a final year product design student from the UK, but foremost an audio enthusiast, just like the majority of you here.
I want to share my project with you, come see!!

For my final project I wanted to design and create a household speaker. The project was primarily a styling job, but I have done my research on speaker design, so I have some idea what I'm doing. I wanted to merge the Hi-Fi & Wireless technologies together in a beautiful elegant form which in turn would produce beautiful sound.

So far the project is going great, I am hoping to get making this prototype model sometime next week. But I wanted to get your opinions on the design, also if I have made some horrendous mistake that my untrained eyes have missed.

Features:
- Wireless DLNA connectivity for high quality streaming from mobiles, tablets and laptops.
- Wired input - For you lossless fanatics ( probably use Phono connection.
- Wireless charging
- Two 5.5" woofers 50-100W
- One 1" tweeter
- Home built two way crossover
- Ambient Lighting - For those chill times, parties.
- Built in Amp

I have taken extreme measures in the design to reduce resonance within the design.

- Minimal floor contact - Will probably be using spikes on the prototype.
- Three sections of solid void free bracing
- Double thickness walls, inner lined with Silicone.
- Heavily damped driver mounting, Rubber rings, well nuts etc.
- Solid construction using minimal components, so less joints in the enclosure.

I have included some of my sketch work and renderings. There are two versions below, tell me which one you prefer.

Please give me your feedback on this, it would mean the world to me, ( and it might make my tutor happy!)

Thanks
Jonny

I prefer V2. Looks like $10,000 speakers (if it works).
I think some speaker designers will be along shortly to point out some acoustical issues, but I just want to say some of your goals are great. I'm sick of looking at boxes in non-dedicated rooms for all but expensive speakers. It's the main reason I have Mirage OMD-5s in my living room. They don't look like speakers. They blend in. V2 for me also - if it can be made to work.

Thank you! :) The speakers will be fully operational, wireless streaming, everything. I cant wait to have it in my room.
Just hope I get a good grade!

I understand there will be some issues. One already pointed out the tweeter was too high, those spikes will interfere.
Yes, I really didn't want to make a 'Box' unfortunately its the easiest shape to manufacture and that's why its so common, despite it not being the most acoustic shape.

The speaker will be fully operational. I cant wait till its finished.

Thanks for your feedback!
Typically, you don't want any of your drivers recessed in an enclosure...
Very attractive and classsy!! What size are the drivers. They look large relative to the cabinet volume.
Where did you get your furniture?
I want my theater/rec room to be modern like that.

A lot people pointed this out now, the feedback from all the forums I posted in have been very helpful! Thank you ::)

My furniture came from Google images haha. In all seriousness, I want this furniture too, although I need my own house first!

The drivers are 5" they aren't too big and their peak power is 100W, and thank you for the compliment!
Nice work Jonny but the design looks vaguely familiar to me ... :)

It'd be nice to have an option of a grill (either cloth or metal?).

Regardless, looks very nice!

V2 for me as well.
My only comment is that the legs appear to be light for the unit. I'm not saying they wouldn't hold up the unit. I'm saying that heftier ones would look better. Interesting design. You could call it cocoon.
I LOVE THESE!! Besides a few design refinements, I would love to see these in production. As someone pointed out earlier, the box is getting SO old! Good luck!
I like the "Venus Flytrap" V1s.
