OK, now that my 2 htpc (ht and bedroom) are working under Windows, I'm ready to try Linux on the bedroom htpc.

My ultimate goal is to have a Microsoft-free home (MacOS X and Linux only).

But I must have the same fonctionality as with my Windows HTPC:

- nice frontend (like myHTPC)

- dvd player

- mp3 and mp4 aac player

- pictures viewer

- remote friendly

Here's the specs:

AMD Duron 650MHz

Chaintech Summit 7NIF2 nForce2 IGP with onboard GeForce 4MX, CMedia9738, Ethernet

Crucial 256MB DDR PC2100

WD 40GB 5400rpm (15GB use by Windows XP)

ATI Remote Wonder

connected via Svideo to my Toshiba 20" TV

I have some questions:

Should I install RH9, Mandrake 9.1 or KnoppMyth?

What frontend for linux would you recommend for replacing myHTPC? It has to be able to show me a list of DVD backup and music files from my server (WinXP) and be able to launch them with a simple click.

Does a mp4 aac player exist for linux? I want to be able to play all my music that I ripped with iTunes on my Mac.

Probably MythTV plus samba on any of those distributions will be close to what you need.

Thanks, I'll try KoppMyth since MythTV is already installed with it.
