I was gonna build an 8 driver ib but...

I was gonna turn my 4 driver ib into an 8 driver ib with the extra four AE IB15 drivers that i have laying around (I currently have a 4 driver ib up front). I set a Velodyne 15" in back to try out the Audyssey Sub EQ HT that came with my new pre pro to find the best location for the planned ib. I've always heard that more subs are better than one (I count the 4 driver ib as one).

What a difference adding the Velodyne made. Smoother bass across the board and better integration as well. I am sure the pre pro has something to do with it too.

The thing is, I can only turn up the ib to quarter power and the Velodyne to like 1/20th volume! I cannot imagine that I would ever need another ib in place of the single sub I put in the back of the room. I really don't understand why so many guys go nuts and build monster sub arrays. I get it that it is fun and there are bragging rights but come on. Not to insult anybody at all, thats not my intention. I guess I am just getting too old.

"If it's too loud, you're too old" ;):D:p

You probably filled in some nulls.

Multiple locations of IB is not usually done. The cult of the infinetly baffled may be a good place to check out. If the FR graph looks good, another sub may not benefit and the graph can always get worse, lol.,

If you decide to reconsider I'll be selling 4 ae ib15 soon...
Actually, I have 4 AE IB15 drivers sitting in a closet. I think after listening to music in my movie room that has the ib that I will use those to build an IB in my music room. The difference has been the addition of a great pre/pro with Adyssey XT32 with Sub HT EQ. The bass is now nicely integrated and powerful compared to non room-corrected bass I was getting using the OPPO 105 only.

I may want more drivers...what are you selling them for?

Were you listening to 50hz kick drums or 7hz-15hz movie effects? I think lots of people would be satisfied with 4x15's for music. Not so impressive when trying to reproduce sub 20hz effects tho.

It is an amazing thing when you fill in nulls ! I did it in my last system with a couple little DIY sealed subs.

So, will you just leave the veledyne or complete the ib ?

Hard to drive a tough deal with a man that has an epic mustache when i can't even grow one ha!

Think I can do all 4 including shipping for 400-425
Ha ha. The Moustache was a joke that lasted about a day after I shaved off my winter beard. I'm 55 and this was my first time ever for facial hair.
That's a good price for the drivers. I've been spending money like a drunken politician lately on AV gear though.

Have you learned nothing from Aaron Shock?

When in doubt, double down...

It's only a few hundred more and you'd have a world class bass system ha!

Sorry its easy to push things that are a great product

Listening to the kick drums and feeling the ultra sonics both.

Well the IB in the movie theater is already complete...with the addition of the Velodyne. So I am leaving the Velodyne in the theater WITH the IB.

I will take a hiatus from AV stuff and maybe build another IB in the outside movie/music theater this summer. But that means I really need to get another nice Pre/pro in order to integrate the bass with the music. This is getting expensive. When will the madness ever stop??
Yeeaaa people go nuts on here.

There's a lot of people who get addicted to experiencing new equipment (I'm one...just a broke one). Also this hobby rightfully attracts a higher % of people with a lit expendable income (compared to general population).

I also feel there is a bit of the modern 'paradox of choice' and fear of missing out.

Could go one... Ha
I'm currently planning a (mostly) dedicated media room, and I'm looking at putting in four two-driver IB manifolds using the IB15 drivers. I don't know that this will give better results than a single large manifold with all the drivers, but it will spread the low frequency sources around spatially which I can't see as a bad thing. If either of you guys want to part with your extra IB15s, I'm still looking for another quad.

Were you using the Oppo 105 as a preamp and source? If not, What pre/pro or AVR were you using before, and what is your new pre/pro?

I have long been lusting over an Oppo 105 to use straight into my amps with no preamp or AVR, but then I eventually decided to do the same thing but with and HTPC using JRiver.

I would have expected the Oppo 105 to sound better if you used as a pre/pro prior to getting another pre/pro to replace it?

I would think that four two driver IB s would be better. I would, however, test the locations that you will place the IBs in with some other subs, even if you have to build some test boxes for them. I say this because once you build the IB and install it then it aint going anyhere and you may have placed it in a bad place for the room. I assume that you are going to place them midpoint in the four walls?

I was using the 105 as preamp and source. Now I am using a Marantz AV7702 with a Marantz UD5007 as the source. The new set up is head and shoulders above the 105>amps.

BTW, I was fortunate enough to win a Marantz AV8801 super cheap on the bay to use as the preamp in the music room. I tried it as a 2.1(2) system with a couple of 18 Peavy subs that I had and didn't care for the sloppy bass. I have to get busy and build the IB for the music room now. It should not take me long once I get started on it.

Try using measurements, moving the subs around, and adjusting delays. The sloppiness may go away.
yeah, I didn't even run Audyssey on them. I'm sure that would help immensely. I guess I just figured I would go ahead and build the IB anyway cause I've gotten use to that tight deep bass my other IB provides.

A reasonable assumption, but the room dictates otherwise. The room shares one wall with a garage, and that wall will house all four manifolds, placed at irregular spaces at different heights across it. Testing first isn't a bad idea, though harder to do with locations well away from the floor. I have some small sealed-box subs that could be floated, perhaps...
