The one that caught a lot of peoples' eyes was the raycasting terrain demo. The whitepaper for it is here: http://www.research.ibm.com/people/a...0-%20final.pdf

Some highlights:

The Input:

The Output:

Performance comparison:

Two impressive things to note are a) the speedup over a G5 (for the PS3's CPU, it'd be 50x vs the 2Ghz G5, and just over 30x vs a G5 linearly scaled to 3.2Ghz), and b) how a 2-chip Cell configuration offers double the performance over a single-chip solution, which bodes well for multi-chip usage.

I haven't read all of them yet, but it seems like interesting stuff :)

reminds me of:

For example we showed the demo that renders London City, it's not rendered in the GPU but the CELL does lighting and texture processing then outputs it to the frame buffer. Even without GPU, only CELL can create good enough 3D graphics.

it really does seem like CELL can output some great looking stuff, even without RSX .. I can't wait to see what devs. come up with using CELL & RSX at the same time

From what it seems, the cell makes a nice GPU and a nice PPU, but many question it's ability as a CPU:)

Yeah, I saw this......amazing stuff..

Although Sony says CELL is better suited towards vertex ops as apposed to pixel ops. it seems CELL is decent as a software rasterizer since it is pushing some pretty looking pixel even without the use of a GPU...

Impressive...
