When I travel, I usually tote along a few movies and watch them on my laptop. I usually consider the PQ quite acceptable and I was wondering if laptops are close enough to LCD flat panels to have them be a decent way to help decide if LCD flat panels are a reasonable option. In other words, if motion blur and black levels are not problematic on a laptop to my eyes, can I expect the same to be true of at least some LCD flat panels (if not all of them)?

I am considering a far larger display and simply exploring my options (50-60 inch range). Owing to placement constraints (the display has to be placed higher than is ideal--I will not compromise my audio setup for the display), RPTVs are out because the off centre vertical angle makes the image wash out too much (I've made measurements and tried it out). My laptop screen is pretty limited in its viewing angle, though the rough tests I've done in stores suggests LCD flat panel TVs are not as hampered by that limitation. Given that, I was simply curious to know if some of the shortcomings associated with LCD flat panels (specifically motion blurring and black levels) are at least as minor as they appear to be on my laptop.

I've been using a 12" iBook for 2 years and a 4 year old 15" Toshiba running XP and my 32" LG HDTV yields a far better image when watching DVDs than either laptop. Sharper, brighter, clearer and a much better experience.

Edit: ditto for my 19" Samsung LCD desktop monitor, the TV is just better.
