If I Get the 4805, Will I Be Disappointed...

when comparing the picture to either a Z3 or AE700? I bought a h31, but am taking it back because I found a much better deal on the 4805 and reviews seem to indicate the two are pretty similar picture wise. I know the obvious 480 vs. 720 differences, but in "real world" viewing, will the z3 or 700 blow away the 4805 when viewing HD? I know they'd be "better"...but is it THAT much better? Viewing will probably be 50% DVD, 25% SD, and 25% HD. I want vibrant, bright color with minimal SDE...I found the SDE on the h31 to be negligible from my viewing distance.

I have gone through three of these in the past 2 months. The first two i had didn't accept component inputs or were bad. The third one popped a bulb on the first day. I have had terrible experiences with three of these machines and it has left a bad taste in my mouth in regards to the whole front projector "thing" prolly going to buy a 72 dlp

Since it sounds like you're far enough back not to see SDE...no. When viewed from 2x width or so, even my AE900 doesn't "blow away" the 4805.

I second that. I've owned the Infocus 4800 (480P), a Mitsubhish HC900U (576P), and now a Panasonic AE900 (720P). I also have several friends who currently own the Infocus 4805. SDE aside, I would certainly not use the term "blown away" to describe any improvements in image quality. I've certainly seen some improvement in contrast ratio and black levels, but they are subtle at best. The real improvements have come in the elimination of SDE, since my front row seating can get as close as 1.3x width. If seating distance isn't an issue for you, I certainly wouldn't overlook the 4805. There's a good reason it's such a popular projector.

I find the improvements in CR and blacks less subtle since adding a filter and tweaking the settings, and saturation is nicer also, but the most noticeable difference is certainly in SDE since I'm now about as close as you are.
I'm 14 feet back from a 100" diagonal screen...would the SDE be minimal at that distance on the 4805?

I sit that far back and I only see it in white lettering.
I've owned the 4805 for a few months and after seeing my friend's $5000 dlp projector I thought I was going to be blown away.

Well sure, the $5000 projector has better blacks, sharper pictures and more natural colours but certainly it isnt 4x or 5x better than the 4805. But yes its definitely an improvement over it.

Given the price of the 4805, its definitely one of the best projector for that price. I have compared it with the AE700 and I like the 4805 better. I have yet to compare it to the ae900.

good luck with your decision but you certainly cannot go wrong w/ the 4805.
