...indeed, if I were king, I would proclaim esteemed knighthood to the first to deliver for home theater a 3-panel DLP projector, with a native 1,700 x 720 "Cinemavision" panel resolution, and with an internal scaler of renowned pedigree capable of autodetecting from all inputs the image geometry, and scaling the image to full panel constant height resolution, displayed in proper width ratio. Perhaps I would throw in a pot of gold, if the projector also included a shutter type device that would mask off the unused outer edges of the combined image to block stray light, thereby enabling "Royal" blacks.

A good king would want at least 1080 verticle. so that 1080i and 1080p source material could be played native.

Also a good king would demand the dithering, studdery pans, and poor shadow detail would also be fixed on DLP

...ah, but a good king would not want a pj only a king could afford, but a pj for all his kingdom to afford, and using a panel that TI could actually produce.

Well, in my kingdom, I'd be a benevolent ruler and all my videophile subjects would be privy to SXRD-smoothness, 1080P resolution, and 5000:1 CR with no trace of rainbows and dithering...

....the 1080P would indeed be fit for the King's castle, but only with the royal decree that any subject who whatsoever complaineth of "Royal" grays, or "Screendoor" shall be forever banished to the royal dungeon, wherein they can spend the rest of their days amidst such misery.

I say off with his head, and let's bring in an oligarchy. Last thing we need is another goddam monarch. :)

Good question Andrikos we all know Jedi is not king, and like the princess and the pea the fact is asking for a 1,700 x 720 DLP proves it. I am back to put this usurper to the throne in his place.

Bring on the reign of terror, let'em eat 720p don't cut it, so to speak. And at 1700x1080p (of course 1700x720p as an odd form factor would cost multiples of "normal" 1080p so being kind to the proletariat is academic and incorrect ;)) 1700x1080 could use a anamorphic lens too and still keep your scope with higher real res.

But I'm a god, Jedi, so I would not allow you to get what you want without bowing before my needs. :D As such, I would want the movie played out before me.

Agreed.

BTW, don't you thing the perfect HT projector (for the foreseeable future that is) would have a 2538 x 1080 resolution?

Coupled with a constant height 2.35:1 screen and we're talking heaven.

This setup would give us:

1) 2538 x 1080 full resolution for 2.35:1 movies (at least 50% of movies are 2.35:1 right?)

2) 1920 x 1080 for HDTV

3) 1440 x 1080 for 4:3 NTSC TV viewing

Whatcha think?
