If you have a problem with your Showstopper...

CALL PANASONIC! You bought a Pansonic product, and therefore you need to talk to them. If you like the Replay platform, but don't like how Panasonic is treating you, then return your Panasonic Showstopper and buy a Replay-branded model.

What's the difference between the two? Well, the Replay-branded models have a different implementation of the Macrovision protection which seems to be preferred by most users over what the Showstopper has. Also, Replay tech support appears to be much easier to reach and much more helpful than Panasonic's. Replay employees can be found here on the board and often provide help and insight in greater depth than most companies will provide. And recently, it seems that software upgrades may not be as immediately available to Panasonic owners due to Panasonic's discretion.

If you bought the Panasonic model and you're not happy and you're complaining here, then you might as well be talking to a wall. You bought a device with the Replay OS, but you didn't buy it from Replay. If you're whining about not getting an upgrade, then talk to Panasonic, it's their call. If you're complaining about macrovision screens, this was Panasonic's call, not Replay.

If you want to punish someone for a Showstopper that you're not happy with, punish Panasonic. But don't pretend that Replay and Panasonic are the same company: Replay is an outstanding company that tries very hard to please its customers, and I think you'll find that the majority of Replay customers are very happy with their devices. You don't blame Microsoft just because Dell won't help you.

Heck, I blame Microsoft for Panasonic not approving ReplayTV's software faster. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Heck, I blame Microsoft for my getting up an hour early yesterday. Windows should tell you it's going to change at midnite, not that it was going to after the fact!

You all admit that your gripe is with Panasonic, not Replay. You all admit that there are no Panasonic employees who pay attention to this board. You admit that you are trying to apply pressure to Replay to change Panasonic's actions, and then you also admit that Replay needs Panasonic a lot more than Panasonic needs Replay.

Maybe next you can show me where you were *guaranteed* a 3.0 update at all, let alone one at the exact same time Replay-branded owners would get one. I would bet that Panasonic could probably get away with not giving you the update at all. Then wouldn't you feel stupid...

Get this through your thick skulls: If you really cared about this so much, you'd put your effort into tracking down the people at Panasonic who could actually help you. Instead, you're being lazy and yelling at the people who can hear you with the minimum amount of effort...

Replay is holding up the upgrade, not Panasonic. If they would just admit they got trapped by Panasonic and renegotiate the revenue sharing agreements, everyone can get on with their business.

If you have one shred of evidence to support this claim I would be very interested in seeing it...as would everyone else, I'm sure.

So...any proof? ANYTHING?

I disagree. ReplayTV shows they have balls by not cowarding down to Panasonic. Replay is confindent that their software was ready to release, and they've proven it by releasing it on Replay units. They didn't HAVE to wait for Panasonic. If anything, they've proven that the software is indeed ready to be released.

Same goes for macrovision. With your logic, regular ReplayTVs would have the same makes-no-sense macrovision scheme as the Showstopper.

ReplayTV is in a better position than most people think. They have their own line of units that they can experienment with if they want to. And they have. I think that's great, that they are willing to stand up for what they think is right.

But let's look at the practical side here. What good does it do Replay to keep 3.0 from going out on their own units until Panasonic approves? It would increase the server load, it would put more upgrades closer to the busy christmas months, and if there WERE some sort of unknown devistating bug, ReplayTV might be in deep s*** with Panasonic.

Don't you think Replay WANTS you to have 3.0? The 3.0 software is significantly more flattering for the platform than previous versions.

If Panasonic is holding up 3.0 because they are trying to improve their negotiating terms over Replay, as you believe without providing any proof of any kind, then it is Panasonic who is screwing its customers to improve its situation, not the other way around.

If there is even a grain of truth to what you claim, then you fault Replay bowing to Panasonic's pressure for the way the Showstopper implements macrovision, and then you fault Replay for holding up your 3.0 upgrade by not capitulating to Panasonic's terms.

If you're going to argue a conspiracy theory, at least pick one that makes sense.
Or better yet, stop engaging in conspiracy theorism altogether.

Because, y'know...

We will release the software when the CIA black helicopters and Jimmy Hoffa are satisfied that a Yeti is not responsible the death of Jim Morrison. I ought to know. I helped Strom Thurmond's alien masters fake the first moon landing.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuugggggg!

I'm with you! I have both a Replay and a Showstopper, my Replay has been running 3.0 for some time. Would I like to have my Showstopper running 3.0? Darn right! but I'm a patient kind of guy and when it's ready, it's ready. I get my TV out of the LA market, have I seen a Macrovision problem? Not ONCE!

It's time for some of you people to get a little perspective on things. ReplayTv is doing what they can and are they not intentionally holding back 3.0 from you.

I have never seen such conspiracy theories and whining in my life.

Do I care what you call me? heck no.. fire away, it's easy when you're anonymous. Jleavens, I appreciate your comments, couldn't agree more and look forward to shaking your hand if you attend the focus group meeting on Nov 9.

I was one inch from buying a panasonic, after reading the posts here I converted over to a 3060. So you have succeeded in part of your mission and I thank all of you for airing your problems with the panasonic.

Pandering to this guy's outrageous comments is beneath you.

I implore you to ignore him completely.

(not trashing what you've done so far - just suggesting what we do from now on)

He's been asked for proof, he hasn't not presented any. End of story. Period.
