If you have them, please post pictures of how you mounted your projector

I have an NEC 6pg+ with the NEC mounting brackets that I will ceiling mount. The supporting structures are 2X12s. It is in an unfinished room, so I'll be able to construct the mount before putting up drywall.

I've read various posts of how people mounted their pj and I think I understand how some have done it. Lets just say its easier for me to visualize how somebody has mounted their projector if I can see pictures.

Hush box hasnt went up yet.

I had (3) people hanging from it to verify strength before hoisting the projector up.

Good luck

Mine is recessed mounted to conserve ceiling height. Double studded on the side walls at the projector points. Support is on top of suspended ceiling joists. See link below.
Ron,

I tried unsucessfully to get to the links. It came back saying the server was not responding.

Thanks,

Tim

Works for me too ... a bit slow at times though.
How long does it take to download to your computers? Mine stops after about 1 minute saying that the server is not responding. Nothing downloads in that amount of time. I think I can adjust the time-out period, but am not sure where. I have netscape on my office computer.
See this thread:

The slotted U-bar is available at electrical supply warehouses (don't even try Home Depot...) and the bars are lagged into 2 x 10's with 3/8" lag screws. A total of 3 joists and 6 bolts. Each bolt needs to support less than 30 lbs. - a man can hang from each one with no movement (175 lbs). The mount is a custom mount made for the G70.

If you want more details - ask

By the way, the pics from the other reply above loaded in about 3 sec. at work (direct LAN).

Why do you say "don't even try Home Depot"? I got mine (SuperStrut) from there, along with the bolts, nuts and L-brackets.

Gertjan
I guess I spoke too soon. The Lowes and Home Depots in Cleveland had no slotted U-bar. It's a great way to mount the projector as it gives you a lot of lee way.
Steve,

Ok, i was just curious what the reason was :)

And i agree, it's a great way to mount the projector. You have quite a bit of freedom to play with the angles etc.

And i was lucky - we measured out where the ceiling joists where supposed to be, and drilled the holes through the drywall ceiling, and it turned out we were dead on :) So now if i ever need to take down the projector or move it, there will only be about 10 relatively small holes (3/8") in the ceiling that i can easily cover up again, and nobody can tell there was a projector mounted there :)

Hey doc - how many of them pull ups can you do???
The following pics show the area between my drop ceiling and the ceiling/floor joists. I use the same SuperStrut that Gertjan uses and it's very easy to configure. I also have a steel safety cable...just in case.;)

Here are my mounting photos. I have not yet added a ceiling to my garage, er um, I mean, home theater. Two by Fours, Threaded Rod, Nuts and lock washeres. All at your local Home Depot.

Will,

I don't know if it makes a difference (weight balance wise), but your brackets that are attached to the projector are mounted in the wrong direction. The slots of the "L" brackets should open towards the front of the projector and not the back.
DMan,

Your so observant. I switched them around when I flipped my mounting 2x4's. I was trying to get my projector the correct throw distance. I dont think it much matters, but perhaps I should switch them back to be safe.

Will
Mounted it? Well...while I love my projector dearly, contrary to ugly rumors there is nothing going on between us physically. And even if there were, I wouldn't take pictures.
I have a heat question. In all these pictures, I see the projector mounted close or flush to the ceiling. Does this allow adequate ventilation? I have a Sony 1271 in mounting and the installation manual says to leave some space when you ceiling mount it. More to the point, there is a picture of the bottom of the projector with a rectangle marked out. Underneath it says, "There are ventilation holes in the area marked with oblique lines. Do not block this area". Is this unique to my Sony, or is it something I don't need to worry about.
