This may help someone. I have Time Warner cable with a Cisco 8742hdc DVR and many other components. A few days ago, the DVR (but not the plasma TV, AV receiver, DVD player, etc.) stopped responding to my remote(s). I tried all 3 remotes, which worked fine before, and the only way they would work was to put them almost touching the DVR. I called TWC, and tech support could not help. We scheduled a service call, but the next day the DVR worked fine. Then, the next night, it stopped working again. To make a long story short, I racked my brain for anything that could be different in the house, and remembered a new light bulb I put in a bedside lamp in another room. That was the problem. It was a dimmable CFL bulb, and somehow it interfered with only this one part of one AV component. I can now cancel my 2nd service call. I will return the bulb to Home Depot.
