Years ago I was given a Harmony something-or-other remote and I had to pay the local store a crazy amount of money for THEM to program the remote. Turns out they only programmed a few features of each component, etc. I used the remote once and swore I was done with all in one remotes.

Just installed a new HT in my house and I am staring at 7 remotes. I need something fast as I find myself thinking twice about watching something because of the hassle of all the remotes. Here is what I have....Comcast motorola cable box, Pioneer Elite Plasma, Oppr BR player, Elite motorized screen, Epson 6500UB PJ and an Emotiva XPA-5 amp.

Is there a remote, under say...$500 that will run my system and make it effortless to use. My last remote, for example, was only programmed to give me 3 audio surround modes when the receiver offered about 10.

I need an easy to use remote which the wife and I can easily use to power things on, cruise through the options (like the dynamic, living room, theater, frame interpolation in the Epson PJ) and really push a button or two and watch the plasma or the screen.

Thanks for the help.

assuming all your devices are ir-controlled (i'm not familiar with the screen, as i don't have a pj), any harmony will do what you want... if you want to give one a try, tiger direct has refurb 659's for 45 bucks...

and you can program it yourself quite easily... there's absolutely no need for you to pay someone to do it...

edit: if you still have the harmony you were given, you can use that...

The Harmony 1100 is logitechs top of the line remote with touch screen and RF capabilities, it can be purchased at $372 on Amazon now. Of course they have many other models that are cheaper too.

I have my list of dislikes & complaints but i think it is very easy to setup and get everything you mention up and running.

The UVR MX350 is a lot cheaper and does everything the others do.

My sister use to live in Douglassville and I went to HS in Pottstown...small world.

Hopefully the setup is not too complicated for the remote and I can start enjoying the system with the touch of a button or two, or three, or four....

Nice link!! guide to apple-centric networking and music streaming

Wish there was an app to make the iPhone a real remote to control a HT system.

On a tangent....I have a mac for about 18months now and have NO idea how to use it, like I did with my PC. The "problem" with my mac is there is never an issue so all I know how to do is launch a program and use it. My PC I was always looking at the OS system, looking for patches, right clicking here, configuring there, etc.

thanks...
a lot of questions about music streaming came up in the pio 05/07 topic, so i threw that together to give people a starting point... i'm still working on it little by little... one of these days i'll actually finish it...
if you have any specific questions or see something in there that needs further clarification, feel free to pm me...
i like to help out, it helps me learn more...

there's a few different iphone/itouch apps in development... hopefully we'll see one actually in production soon enough, and hopefully it won't be necessary to jailbreak your iphone to use it... won't be cheap though, since you also need some type of external controller box... check out itai's thread "introducing a new remote for the iphone"... that looks like it's gonna be good when it makes it to "production"...

tangent... lol... nice, ain't it?
