O.k. here it is a month ago I put down a 20% deposite on a JVC-hd350 at Myer Emco in wash. D.C. I got an call today that they are going out of bussiness and ALL orders must be paid in full within 24 hrs. I was planing on using my tax rebate to make my purchase of the JVC and an Integra 70.0, but I won't get my money for another two weeks. Since I was getting such a great deall (JVC for 3k) I was really excited. If Myer emco sells my projector what can I get for the same price & quality of the JVC HD 350? I'm really freeking out. My wife & I were really looking forward to completing our movie room.

Are you sure you're going to get your projector if you pay?
Carefull!!

Going out of business often means you get nothing, even if you have paid in full. What guarantee do you have that they will actually ship anything to you? Picking it up in person would be the only way I would pay them in this situation.

F.Y.I. .. . .The store is around the corner from my house. I know the sales manager & I already put 20% down. The company was managed wrong from the top. Ah man this sucks. My credit limit is only 1k (had to rebuild the old credit there .. wife had a brain tumor & had to stop working but now we are GREAT!)

If I lose this projector what should I consider as a replacement??

No need to panic. It's only home theater.
At this point there are so many unknowns about say whether Myer Emco is filing bankruptcy etc, if you can get a refund today, I would take it. When you get your total funds together, then look at the market and decide. I am you will find a great deal on something suitable then. forget about the 350 for now.
I agree that unless they have the projector in stock for you to pick up, I would get a refund. That model is discontinued as well, so that adds to the worry.
We don't know all your options....

Will you get the 20% back? (if they are going out of business this means cash not a check)

If not and you know the owner can you come up with some money cash? $600 is already down - do you have $1K available on the credit card? now you are looking at $1,400 left - can you give him some and can he live with waiting for the rest? ALL assuming the PJ is there and you get it in hand

If you live around the corner your best option is to talk to him. I would NOT walk out of that store with any of my money left inside without the projector in my hand...... when people go out of business friendships and relationships goes out the window due to personal concerns and legal concerns
guys its a chain. Though the owner is well known by industry members and is a real good guy, he i suspect doesn`t have contact with customers. They have stated they are liquidating and are taking no new orders. i have talked to several manufacturers who have shipped them product recently and they have been told they can not get the product back. Obviously the poster does not have the funds now. Get your money back while you still can. the longer you wait, i suspect the more difficult it will be. In situations such as these, one wouldn`t be surprised to see a bankruptcy filing and a final liquidation by a professional liquidator company. Obviously, they are changing the contract with you made by the deposit to hold it until some date. They have told you they no longer will wait. GET YOUR MONEY BACK NOW. they have no right not to refund it in full. If they issue a check, take it and cash it. They won`t write you a bad check. If you paid by credit card, have them issue a full refund immediately.

Yes the projector is in the store & I've even seen it. Its so sad that I go visit it LOl there it is.. in the back with my name and the sales manager's name all over it. John myer is in a hard spot, & from a bussiness side I do understand his move. BUT my brother & I have done a lot of bussiness with them since 2003 & I have always came through. (heavy sigh) Even if I put it on my credit card I'm still short. If my buddy can't hold it I guess I'll go get my money back ( I put cash down). The I.R.S. says am 2 weeks out before I secure my funds. In the event I lose this one what should I be looking at in the 3500.00 rekm?? Any sugestions would be appriciated.

Ox. Several AV rags have published news regarding Myer emco. Jon has been quoted as saying he hopes to purchase the name and customer list. I would assume from this some sort of bankruptcy proceeding will occur. A final. Anything could happen at any time.stores closing, inventory being consolidated, a liquidation company. Noone knows. Perhaps you cangamble with you $600 for two weeks. But it is a gamble. its hard to predict what will happen but regardless you should get your deposit back no matter what happens. But knowing anything for sure is just not possible.
So 24hrs is up -- OP what ended up happening?
I suspect they will try and sell it to somebody else and if they do, they will refund the deposit. They in essence swtated that they would not hold it after 24 hours. I doubt it will sell quickly be an outdated model now.

Its still there waiting for me. If its outdated. . .is it worth getting??

I can`t make that call for you. Its a model that has been replaced. But if the going price is $3.8K and you are getting it for $3K and you are stretching your funds to get therem it seems like a good deal. I am no expert on cheap machines. I know a lot mre about the higher priced JVCs, last years and this. Others know more, but the replacement for the 350 if I remember correctly is only incrementally superior but others here can set me and you straight.
That projector retailed for $4995 when it was new (though street price was less). An A-stock unit now for $3k is a good price, but it is discontinued (last years model). I agree with Mark that if it is at the top of your budget then get it if you can as it blows away most anything else in that price range.
