I am having a hard time deciding which Tv to get, the TH-58PZ800U or the PN58B550. My budget is around 2000 and Ive been doing a lot of research. I wasnt able to view the Panny in the store as all the places around me dont have them up for display. Is there a better one out of the two? Are there newer models that are in the same price range that are better? Please help as I think I am overthinking this.

I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a Samsung...Do you really need a 58" display? What is your viewing distance? My options would be expand your budget a little and get the Panasonic 58"S1....if you can live with a smaller size...get the Panasonic 54" G10...the 800U was a fine display last year but the new Panasonics are much better. If it comes down to buying the 58 Panny or the 58 Sammy, by all means buy the 800U.

Nothing wrong with the Samsung IMO, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if the S1 was out of your budget. Between the two, I would get the Samsung. If the S1 and B550 are the same price, I would lean towards the S1.

Just read the various Samsung Plasma threads - there are way too many issues and problems being reported by owners and despite the ongoing denials of some of this forum's fervent Samsung supporters, there are many owners complaining of persistent IR and Burn-In that won't go away. Here's one of the more recent postings:

"tir"?

Talking in reverse?

Taking in revenue?

In all seriousness though, personally I would go with either a Panasonic 54" or wait until the new Panasonic 58" comes out..

Temporary Image Retention. It would have been more clear if he had capitalized TIR

I think I would have buyers remorse if I got the 54 since it seems that everyone always wants to go bigger. Ill be sitting at 14-15 feet away.

If you already are worried about that then I would say you DEFINITELY will. Some people are happy with smaller, but you don't sound like one of them. I had a 50" Panasonic before and my only regret was not having a bigger TV -- and I sit closer than you. I have a 63" now and it doesn't seem big at all.

You should either get the Sammy or wait for the new Pannys...

I would get neither. For $2000 you should have no problem getting a 58" B650, which will have a better picture than the 800U. Don't pay $2k for a B550, when you can get a B650 for that price out the door! The 800U isn't worth $2000. For $1500 it would be ok. Just understand that there is a possibility of getting a buzzer with the Samsung. Be prepared to have to return/exchange it. Some people report no problems with buzz however, so it's hit or miss. You should not have any problems with burn-in on the Samsung if you care for your set properly. The Panasonics are more resistant, however. But the PQ will be better on the Samsung. It will also be lighter, thinner, brighter, and use less power. I hear the speakers are pretty good on the 800U, however.

Since you own one, perhaps you could refresh my memory as to all the differences between the B550 and the B560. I know the B560 adds Cinema Smooth, but doesn't it also come with a backlit remote? I don't think the B550 comes with a fully backlit remote. Anything else?

the 560 has CS. it does have a back lit remote. i thought the 550 had the back lit remote too but i could be wrong. i know my brothers 50A550 has pretty much the same remote, still back lit.

i am pretty sure the only difference is CS.
