Hi All

This is my first post on this great forum.

I need some advice on setting up my Infocus SP7205 projector, although this question is relevant to any system that has an adjustable image at source, processor and projector!

For best results what is the best way to setup your system if all of the components in the chain have adjustable image features.

My Denon DVD 3930 player has lots of image adjustmet and the Onkyo processor PR-SC886 does too and finally the Projector.

Would it be best to let the video signal get to the projector then adjust the image or adjust at source or at the processor, which has the best processing out of these, I would guess the processor as its the newest but I'm at a loss as a starting place.......

Also is it best to keep the resolution unscaled until the PJ or again upscale it somewhere along the line.

Any help would be appreciated, many thanks..........

The 7205 uses the Faroudja chip which is amongst the best.

If it were me, I would leave everything at its native resolution and let the InFocus deal with it.

You could try each in turn and see if you notice any improvement of one over the other. Its what you see that matters.

What about upscaling though, is it best for the DVD player to do it or the processor as I don't think the Infocus can up scale....?
I thought I answered that question already. See my previous reply.

Certainly the 7205 up/downscales whatever is fed to it; like all other digital displays, it can only display one resolution - in this case 720p.

I had the 7205, great projector. The colors were spot-on out of the box so I wouldn't use any of the processing of the 886, just leave in pass-through mode for DVD or Blu-Ray. If you have a Blu-Ray, set to 1080i. If you have satellite or cable, set the box to native and try the scaling in the Onkyo or the projector to see which you like. If you don't have the option for native, probably set to 1080i for hi-def.

Also, check the firm-ware on the projector, I had to update mine in order to utilize the DVI cable.

Many thanks for the response, which leads me to my next dilema which I have posted also.....!!!

What will be the best connection method from my Onkyo processor to my Infocus SP7205, I have two options and want the best quality possible.

1. HDMI lead (10m Chord Silver) from the processor to a HDMI/M1 adaptor into the PJ.

Or

2. HDMI/DVI adaptor from the processor to DVI/M1 lead (10m Infocus supplied) into the PJ.

Many thanks in advance..............

Those two setups will provide IDENTICAL results.

Ideally use an HDMI to M1 cable from monoprice.com and eliminate the potentially troublesome adapter.

Ultimately you may have to experiment. Unlikely that another person has tried that exact combo to know for sure what works best.
