Interested in the ultimate, no-holds-barred home theater? Fear not, IMAX  has a solution for you: Your very own IMAX screening room. James Cameron and other famous directors use this kind of system to screen features in IMAX before they are released in theaters. The system's utility is not limited to movies—the lucky owner of possibly the world's finest home theater system gets to enjoy television, video games, whatever they please in 4K IMAX. Sporting events, streaming video, you name it—the system accepts external inputs, making it a full-featured entertainment system.

The new IMAX Private Theatre system is entirely custom-built and requires coordination between IMAX engineers and anyone else involved with building the room, such as architects and interior designers. The end result mimics the characteristics of a commercial, state-of-the-art digital IMAX amphitheater, with the signature curved screen that takes up an entire wall and twin 4K projectors. Sound comes from a 7.1 surround system. IMAX monitors the system 24/7 and claims a five-minute response time to resolve any issues that arise.

I cannot begin to guess how much such a rarefied system costs, although it's undoubtedly one of the most expensive home-theater systems imaginable. I never thought I would see the iconic IMAX amphitheater turned into a consumer product, but that day has arrived. Is this the ultimate in home theater?

Do you think IMAX will allow for adding more speakers for customers who want 11.x or say Dolby ATMOS if/when a home theater version is released.
I think the system is an "as-is" proposition. The speakers auto-calibrate daily using built-in microphones and the whole system is laser-aligened. The whole system is remotely monitored 24/7 to make sure it is 100% calibrated and functional. IMAX in theaters uses a 5.1 system, so the 7.1 implementation is technically already a bonus.

As IMAX puts it: "

"Modeled after IMAX’s state-of-the-art private screening room in Santa Monica where leading filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, James Cameron and JJ Abrams come to review their films in IMAX for the first time, the IMAX Private Theatre sets a new benchmark for the ultra-premium home theatre market, delivering a truly exclusive and complete end-to-end experience designed for the ultimate home."

This looks really impressive. If I had the money, I would go this route. Although I do enjoy messing around with my own mix of products, anyone looking for a turn-key solution, this definitely provides a great and almost guaranteed performance. Nice

Realizing I almost certainly cannot afford it, any ballpark estimates on what it costs? Let's assume someone had the construction aspect handled, any idea on cost for this system?

One million plus, not counting the room construction. Most rooms would be 2-5 million is my guess.

While this is really cool, the fact that you mention that the system is monitored 24/7 is something that I really do not like.....but I most likely am in the minority here...

and even though this is only a 7.1 system, I am sure it can sound just as good, if not better than many of the bigger systems out there...

Its the same thing with movie theaters. Ultimately the projectors are an IMAX proprietary system. It is a closed system, simple as that-no user maintenance is involved. Anyone who is okay with having a home security system should be alright with letting IMAX monitor their home theater.

Exactly, monitoring performance and checking for failures. That's pretty cool actually.

Sorry guys but the video portion would be awesome however the audio would be less than what I am used to. IMAX needs more and much deeper bass! I prefer my audio over any IMAX but that twin 4k would be sweet!

this can be built right now for under 100 grand (most work done by you). This is my dream theater I thought up before my build in 2006. My idea was to have the entrance to the theater from the back of a ranch style home and take up a space that would connect the first floor to the basement. wrapping stairs on both sides and a space with in a space. mono amps placed on the exterior walls of inner space by each speaker. some laser\led projectors out now can edge blend the imax effect. All components can be in a room on basement level behind screen wall.

I got inspired by this home and theater back in the day.

go to the 4 min. and 30 sec. mark for theater

Most people are completely unaware that there's a subculture of subwoofer fiends who have as much displacement and raw power as the neighborhood IMAX does, in a room with a tiny fraction of the total volume—and what that exactly means in terms of the viewing/listening experience.
