Saw Spidey 3 today at the local Imax.

It is BY FAR THE BEST theater experience EVER! The resolution makes 1080P look like childs play. Unbelievable!

I WANT ONE!!!!!! SCREW THE STACK!!!!!!

Not to mention 12,000 watts of audio. JUST SICK!

The ONLY TORUS that I have ever liked!

Those 70mm prints can definitely look sweet. I haven't been in an IMAX for years, though. I'm gonna have to go see something pretty soon.

I wonder if they used the 4k digital master and upsampled to 8k or something to make the new IMAX master print...

I'm not sure how they did it, but you could definitely tell it was a digital master vs. an Imax film. It wasn't as clear and smooth as Imax is, but damn, that BIG ASS screen just envelopes your senses. Incredible.

The ONE thing I did notice with all of this talk about 24, 48, and 72hz, was TONS of judder. I think my eyes are used to 60hz.

I need to figure out how to win the lotto big style so I can build my own.

Yeah Arli,

you need a couple more. It wasn't enough that my hair was moving and my shirt was rippling. Your right you probably need more.

True dat big dog. Other than my own theater (and yours), Imax is the only theater outside of that realm that I will go to.

Is there a better theater experience these days other than Imax? I couldn't imagine that there is.

I've also been to the "dome" Imax at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and that as well is a seriously kick ass experience.

If your ever in Chicago for a couple of days, I highly recommend it.

it would be great if films are still filmed in 70mm, unfortunately, we

can be lucky if they still cut the negatives the old fashioned way (by hand)

and not use those dreadful digital intermediates. It's so weird seeing

compression artefacts on a 35mm print!

Art, what do you think about the seating in those IMAX venues?

I can't sit on those seats for an extended time without bum and backpain

Interesting that you should bring that up. When I went to see the other IMAX conversions I got there early. Half way back right in the center, just right even though the seats are not close to my HT recliners. When we went to Spiderman 3 we took the kids and got there right as they opened the doors to the theater. We sat way off center and about five rows from the front. All I could think about was how it would have been OK if I could have laid back like in my front row.

No, it's 35mm.

You need to go see a 70mm print of something actually filmed in 70mm. Wow. I saw 70mm Lawrence of Arabia at Cinerama, and it was just jawdropping. Good lord.
