Well to start, I have a medium sized room in a basement with a 5.1 system, 46" LCD and PS3/360 systems. I usually play in complete darkness or with very dim lights for a better experience (to me at least) I was thinking of the possibility of a sound activated strobe light that could be used to accentuate things like explosions and the likes in games. Does any1 have any suggestions for a strobe light that is sound activated but can be calibrated or is sensitive enough to only strobe when there's a loud sound. Just trying to find a good place to start. TY in advance.

I'd consider this

It has 1/8" audio input plug so just use the the left/right stereo rca from your dvd player and feed it. The unit takes up to 500w your room should be fairly covered. There's also a dial to adjust for intensity.

Nice find and cheap too, I might try that with some string lights or a cheap strobe for an easy test setup. Thanks for the great idea.
