So I currently have:

Emotiva UMC-1

Emotiva LPA-1

Canton GLE 7 speaker setup

Two subwoofers

Epson 5020ub

I'm really pretty happy with the setup but I would like to upgrade the UMC-1. My new Epson is 3D and I would like to be able to take advantage of that. I also would like official support for my two subs. I certainly wouldn't mind a better picture/sound.

I have been waiting for the Emotiva XMC-1 but am growing impatient. I do not really need fancy room correction or anything. I prefer to adjust everything to meet my own subjective taste.

What units would you guys recommend? I was looking at the Marantz 7701 but I'm not sure with my needs that I really need to spend that much jack. What do you think?

What does "official support for two subs" mean? Dual sub pre-outs on AVRs < $1000 (as well as the 7701) are no different than simply adding a $3 RCA "Y" splitter cable to a single sub pre-out. What is your budget? You may want to consider the new Denon X4000 which uses Audyssey Sub EQ HT for actual dual sub calibration as well as the more advanced Audyssey MultEQ XT32 vs. only MultEQ XT and no Sub EQ HT on the 7701.

sorry, I didn't realize a 7.2 wasn't any different than my current y splitter.

the x4000 seem s a bit of a waste since I wouldn't be using the amplification in it right?

No not really as the X4000 costs $400 less (MSRP) than the 7701 and has XT32 with SubEQ. So just because you will not be using the onboard amps doesn't mean it is a waste. Just think if your LPA-1 has issues you can then use the X4000's onboard amps to run your system. Certainly not a waste then and a nice backup option.

Why not just get the UMC-200 or Sherbourn 7030?

I could see the UMC-200 as it is a current production unit. But I'd avoid the 7030 as it is a discontinued unit and not likely to get any FW updates in the future.
