In-wall L/R with bookshelf center?

428 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Zorba922
Is it advisable to use a standard bookshelf center channel with L/R inwalls?

Given that the center channel does most of the heavy lifting for movies, i'm thinking about this setup. I have to use a low media console for my equipment so I would either place on top of console approx 27" off of floor or on a short stand.

The wife is pressing me for in-walls vs bookshelf/stands.

Also, I was already planning on spending about $800-$900 for LCR. Any advice on an LCR setup at or below this budget?

FYI - I have an 17x14x10 room and will be using my existing Pioneer VSX-1123 with (2) SVS PB-2000's and plan on going with 5.2.4 in future.

If you have an AT screen, a matching in wall speaker would probably be best.

Unfortunately, I dont have one.

Well then a bookshelf center would be quite mandatory! :p

I think you would be best to go with in walls and a physical center.

What brands/models were you looking at?
I've spent all my time researching bookshelves so I'm just now diving into in-walls. Was looking at the Wharfdale 11.2 or 225's, ELAC B6.2, and some others in this price range.
Check out Axiom audio for in walls. a pair of M3s will leave you enough of your stated budget for a good center

If you are a "timbre matching" believer, you could do the Hsu HIW-1 for L/R and their HC-1 center...same drivers I think.

If not, I would consider the Emotiva C2 center (assuming you have the space) or C1 (if you don't). Lots of other good options.
