Has anyone tried an indoor HDTV antenna for local channels like the Terk off air antenna? Like to know how well they work. The clip on for the out door dish wouldnt surrvive the winds I have where I live.

dano289,

More info on your part is needed.

Where do you live?

What type of conditions are there? Is this rural or urban?

Try www.antennaweb.org/ and fill in the information to find out what DTV stations are available to you, and what type of antenna they recommend.

Then after giving all that info, people who live near you will help you decide what type of antenna you might want to get.

STAY AWAY FROM TERK!! WORST, MOST OVERPRICED PIECES OF GARBAGE OUT THERE!!

STICK WITH CHANNELMASTER OR WINEGARD.

ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING!

The Zenith Silver Sensor, available in some stores, performs quite well for an indoor UHF antenna, IMHO. With indoor antennas, placement is *everything*. If the antenna can be placed near a window that is facing the antenna towers, that would be excellent.

I agree on the Terk statements. They are packaged well, look nice, and seem to have convinced most retailers to carry them, but all that has nothing to do with quality of reception, which through a Terk -- is poor to fair (at best). There are *much* better and less expensive antenna options.

The recommendation to look at antennaweb.org is a good one. I live 27 miles from the broadcast towers, according to antennaweb. I am using a radio shack dual bowtie antenna sitting on top of my TV on the first floor of the house, and I get my UHF digital stations with signal strength of about 86-88% using this antenna.

15 bucks. Special order only. It works. I had the same concern about putting anything outside. If I get industrious, I may elevate the antenna to an upper floor closet or an attic but it's hardly necessary.
