I am putting together a budget HTPC built on a inherited Dell Optiplex GX520 (P4 32.ghz). Onboard audio sux so I need to get a PCI card. I'll be feeding a Harmon Kardon av receiver with SPDIF inputs so I don't think I need to spend $$$ on a audio card that does significant DSP because my receiver will take care of that. Can anyone recommend a very low cost card (

Best Regards,

There are also the various TBAAM type USB2 dongle cards. The original TBAAM was about $25 and offered Tos Link out of the headphone jack. Don't know if they still make the TBAAM, but I've seen a lot of copy-cats available from time to time.

Soundblaster offers a budget PCI card, for which a "Digital IO module" (with Toslink and co-ax outputs and inputs) is available.
