Infinity Primus 150 question

364 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  atdamico
I just got my Primus 150's in and I hooked them up to my stereo system. The bass wasn't too good, but I put them in like a little shelf that kind of enclosed it in a cabinet. In other words, the only part of the cabinet that was open was the front. When I put them there it dramatically increased bass response.

However, where I have my speakers now is not the permanent location. Soon, when I get my receiver, I will be moving them to my bedroom. I wan't to build a similar shelf for each speaker in my room so I will get the same bass response. What size should I make it? I mean is it the bigger the better or what?

Why don't you wait until you have the complete receiver and speakers, set them up in the permanent location, and listen first before you do anything?
I thought you were getting a subwoofer..... let the sub take the bass... the bookshelves should be placed in a spot with teh best clarity and upper mid and high's..not bass!

Well I wanted to make shelfs for them anyway to kind of conseal them. I thought I might as well take advantage of it and see if it can help me get better sound. Is there something I SHOULDN'T do when building the shelfs?

Based on this thread and the others you have going, perhaps you might want to wait until you get your receiver first, listen to those speakers through it, and make sure you like them and want to keep them before you start building shelves to fit those speakers. Just a thought. Regardless of what size or shape shelf you put them in or on, you should be able to decide if you really like them once you hook them up to your new receiver.
