I am spending about $400 on a pair of floorstanding speakers to play mostly music. Said in another way, movie sound isn't awfully important to me.

After doing a whole lot of research I have narrowed it down to two speakers:

1. Infinity Primus p362

2. EMP Tek E5TiR

They both seem to offer sound quality comparable to speakers significantly above their price level.

* The E5TiR won the 2009 product of the year award at audioholics.

* The p362's seem to be recommended by a lot of "experts".

I greatly appreciate any input on this. (PS: if you think another pair in the same price range would be better then feel free to suggest).

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: In case it is relevant to my question I wanted to add that I am going to buy either the "Sony STR-DH800 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver" or the "Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K 7-Channel A/V" (which is better than the Sony). I have not looked into any subs yet, as i didn't think it would be too important for the clarity and crispieness of the sound, and didnt want a distorting bass to take the focus from the music.

Let's skip the receiver part. Are you actually in Norway? If you're in the US and have a Fry's near you, it's pretty easy to audition the P362's.

Slight offtopic

If the speakers are no good for music, they're actually not that good for movies. There are plenty of subs that are quite musical. You can ask about this in the subwoofer forum.

I own P362's but I haven't heard the EMP's. The only thing I can definitely tell you about the two is that the EMP's will require more juice. Moreover, if you buy the P362, make sure to follow some of the online modifications.

Thanks for your reply,

I live in New York, so i unfortunately don't have a Frys close by. What is your opinion about the p362 that you own? Do they produce really solid sound? What did you mean about the EMP's requiring more juice? I can get either speaker pair for $500 or lower, so I am going to go for the one that has the best sound. Audioholics award made the EMP's sound pretty attractive but.

Thanks a lot.

The problem is that not a lot of people have owned or heard EMP speakers yet. From what I gathered EMP and RBH are sister companies or owned by the same company. RBH have a solid reputation. EMP reviews are going to be limited and mainly at audioholics.com. Have you read that long thread over at audioholics? That may be your best resource when it comes to EMP.

Infinity Primus are such a great bargain. People usually jump on these when it goes on sale at frys. From what I read about Infinity P362 is that they could of built a better cabinet but they had to cut cost somewhere and cabinet happen to be one of them.

I haven't heard EMP so I can't help you but I definately have no regrets in owning Infinity P362....if only they can look as nice as the EMP cabinet.
