Infinity PS-10 for $149 or Dayton 10" For $124???

I picked up the Athena Micra 6 system for $299 from BB last week, and though I like it for HT, it's a little lacking on the sub for music.

So, I'm thinking of taking it back, and just buying everything seperate.

I can get the Infinity PS-10 for $149, and I hear a lot of good things about the Dayton 10" which I can get now for $124, or wait for it to go on sale for $99.

So, I guess I'm asking, which is the better deal? I've never heard either of them, and I don't see any reviews of the Infinity online, besides, Cnet.

Thanks, Hip

PS, I've got a Pioneer 1014 and Cerwin Vega re30's (3-way 12's) and the CV HTR-CTR (2 - 6.5") but their all 4 ohm, and I don't wanna kill the pioneer, so I'm trying to find a cheap way to replace them a piece at a time.

I've never heard the infinity, but i ordered the Dayton 10" after reading good experiences with it on this forum. i was nervous about buying something i had never heard before, but it arrived today and i have to say that for the price it is a very good sub. its probably as good as a $250-300 sub, but above that and you start getting significant improvements. Its very tight and musical and has good output, although if you have a large room you may be left wanting more punch.
Another Great sub you might think about.... Velo has a great rep for super accurate smooth bass....

Yeah but the Velo only goes down to 36Hz whereas the Dayton dpes a legit 25Hz (maybe lower).

That being said, I was deciding on a few different subs under $300 a couple of weeks back. My then out of stock Dayton will be delivered by UPS tomorrow :)

I saw an Infinity PS10 at CrapUSA for $149 on Tuesday...guess they're trying to get rid of it.
Just for the record manufacture specs don't mean much because there is no set standard of measurement in the industry.I haven't heard the Dayton sub and I'm certain that it offers good value but I can't imagine that a $125.00 sub will produce any significant output at 25HZ. Based on customer reviews I have read, I think the Velo. VX 10 is probably the best 10 inch 100 watt sub in it's price range. I should know, I have one in my 20x10 ft den and it vibrates the walls at moderate volume levels plus it's very tight and clean. The Infinity deal is also promising but if you can, the best thing you can do is let your ears do the judging. Good luck with the Dayton and enjoy.

got the VX10 msyself....and its a pretty good sub considering its price. I'd say its better than the Paradigm PDR 10 which costs a hundred more than the VX10

Audition the VX10 if you have Velodyne dealer near you.
The Dayton does indeed, and has been verified by numerous users to go down to 25 hz. Throw out the listed price, MSRP is $230. The Dayton will compete with any sub $300 subwoofer out there.
I will be eq'ing my Dayton in a week or so with my BFD and an SPL meter. I have test tones down to 16hz I believe and will be more then happy to post my graph when done.

The little Dayton sure is nice.
mboy: Let me know what kind of distortion readings you get if you can.

I have a Dayton, and while I haven't plotted it out yet, it definitely produces at 25hz. In my room with a quick spl check it dropped off about 10db from 35 to 25. It appeared to plummet like a rock after 25.

That was just a quick check using the sweep from Avia. I didn't pay that much attention to the low stuff though as I was hunting a bump ~50hz to see if wanted to BFD. I do.

For $124 I'd think the fact that it produces at 25hz is impressive at any distortion level.
Just to put things in perspective. Most 10 inch 100 watt +/- subs in this price range have a FIXED frequency response down to about 35Hz or so. Once you go below that you will experience a significant roll off and more harmonic distortion due to the increase in excursion. Sometimes distortion can be measured as part of a subs spl output. Cleaner subs are usually less boomy and don't sound as loud. See Velodyne's Pres. Bruce Halls video interview at HOMETHEATERHIFI.COM where he addresses this issue when talking about their digital drive series servo technology.
