I think you've outlined an excellent HTPC system. However, if you are not interested in gaming, that video card is extreme overkill. Not only the cost in money, but also heat and power consumption of your HTPC will increase substantially for very little gain. In fact, I dare say that the integrated graphics (at least on the Fatal1ty board) would be perfectly adequate for your needs. At the very least I would try it first.

And if you decide the Intel CPU route, you might also consider an NVIDIA 630i/7150 or one of the new Intel G35-based boards. I considered the same board for my HTPC build, but decided against it. The sad fact is that the ATI chipset for Intel CPUs is a red-haired step child and is essentially orphaned with AMDs acquisition of ATI...

Good luck, and have fun!

Hi,

The Abit NF-M2 mobo will work great for an HTPC, I use one myself. The 3800 35w processor is nice, but AMD processors are very cheap right now and a Brisbane core processor (65w) might make more sense if you need more power in the future (eg. HD DVD, BlueRay).

As gtfoltz suggested, you may want to try the onboard video before investing in a dedicated video card. If you do eventually want HD DVD and/or Blue Ray, then you will need a vid card.

I hope to visit your country some day.

Have fun.

Well, as far as I know, the latest integrated video from Intel (on the G35) is better than the current integrated video from NVIDIA (630i/7150). This is true ONLY for HD and other 2D tasks. For gaming, I think the NVIDIA is better.

thx , and amd/ati 690 like that in the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H is better or not ?
Unfortunately, I am not as familiar with AMD-based solutions. However, When I purchased my most recent mobo (EVGA NF77 with 630i/7150), I did some research on NVIDIA, and as I recall, the 690 was essentially a 630/7100 equivalent, with an added chip for HD decode. This would seem to make it very comparable to the G35--better media performance, worse gaming performance. I would still opt for the G35, but if you have some reason to prefer AMD, then as far as I can tell, this would be a good choice.

Hi seb,

Did you finish building this HTPC?

I have just chosen the S10V also, to upgrade my HTPC and did a search because I was wondering which PSU to use.

Did the Seasonic S12II 330 fit properly in the OrigenAE S10V case?
