SHARP ANNOUNCES
U.S. AVAILABILITY OF 108-INCH LCD MONITOR FOR COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS
Dramatic expansion
in the range of LCD screen class sizes
LAS VEGAS, June 18, 2008
– Sharp, a worldwide leader in flat-panel Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD) technology, announces the September U.S. availability of the world’s
largest commercially available LCD Monitor. Model LB-1085, a 108-inch
class (107.5 inches Diagonal, 52.9-inches high by 93.9-inches wide) Full
HD 1080p LCD Monitor, features an Advanced Super View LCD panel that
is manufactured at Sharp’s Kameyama Plant No. 2, the first plant in
the world to use 8th generation glass substrates.
With this development, Sharp has demonstrated that it is now possible
to produce LCDs in all screen size classes ranging from 19-inch class
(18-61/64” Diagonal) to super-large sizes.
The
LB-1085 features 6.21 million
pixels (1,920 x 1,080 x RGB) and a TFT (thin-film transistor) active-matrix
drive system. It offers an
array of inputs, including HDMI™ and DVI-I connectors, for greater
connectivity with a wide variety of equipment and devices. A fan-less
design minimizes noise and intake of dust from outside air to further
improve its level of technical sophistication as a commercial display.
Since
developing the world’s first 14-inch color TFT LCD TV in 1988, Sharp
has consistently led the industry with larger screen sizes, introducing
the first 45-inch class model in 2004 and the first 65-inch class (64-17/32”
Diagonal) model. In addition to leading the movement toward larger
screen sizes, Sharp has met the demand for superior image quality by
achieving such “firsts” as a resolution that is four times higher
than that of current HD (4096 x 2160), the world’s highest contrast
ratio (1,000,000:1) and the ultimate in fast-motion image processing
with 120 Hz frame rate conversion and an incredible pixel response time
of 4ms.
Sharp
is working to further the evolution of LCD technology based on the success
of developing the LB-1085, and will continue, as a leading manufacturer
of LCD TVs and Monitors, to develop state-of-the-art products.

SHARP INTRODUCES
HIGH PERFORMANCE DLP® PROJECTORS
WITH BRILLIANTCOLOR™ TECHNOLOGY AT INFOCOMM
Vibrant color reproduction,
exceptional compatibility and reliability make PG-F317X,
PG-F312X, PG-F262X
and PG-F212X ideal for corporate and educational applications
LAS VEGAS, June 18, 2008 – At
InfoComm 2008, Sharp is expanding its projector suite with the introduction
of its newest DLP® projectors with BrilliantColor™ Technology.
Ideal for classrooms and boardrooms, the new Sharp DLP Projectors (PG-F317X,
PG-F312X,
PG-F262X and PG-F212X) provide enhanced
colors and enriched imaging that bring presentations to life and accommodate
a wide array of video and audio inputs for an extremely versatile presentation
experience.
“Even
the best presentation can lose some of its effect if the images aren’t
of the highest quality,” said Bruce Pollack, associate director of
marketing, Professional Display Division, Sharp Imaging and Information
Company of America. “Our new DLP projectors with BrilliantColor
Technology capitalize on our extensive experience in the projector market,
accommodate the newest standards, and even provide some brand new design
features. They are extremely powerful and versatile and yet very
easy for anyone to use.”
Advanced Imaging Capabilities
To
enhance dark scenes and provide crisp text and graphics, the DLP optical
system and Sharp optical technology work together to create a 2200:1
contrast ratio. The new models also feature high brightness (3000
ANSI lumens on the PG-F317X and PG-F312X, 2600 ANSI lumens on the PF-F262X,
and 2300 ANSI lumens on the PG-F212X) for a clear picture in virtually
any lighting conditions. DLP chip technology ensures that every
picture is displayed in a seamless, finely detailed manner. A
DVI input terminal enables virtually noise-free images from digital
sources. The terminal also complies with High-Bandwidth Digital
Content Protection (HDCP) to support digital video content in high-definition.
High-speed on/off switching also helps deliver smooth full-motion video.
Intuitive Design and
Ease of Use
These
Sharp DLP projectors employ a smart front exhaust design that exhausts
potentially damaging hot air from the projector and away from meeting
participants sitting to the side or behind the projector, eliminating
excess noise and distracting hot air.
Each
of these projectors employs a 3x color wheel with six color segments
including yellow and cyan, added to red, green, blue and white, providing
high-accuracy image reproduction. The color wheel uses an ultra-quiet
cooling fan to reduce distracting fan noise to an almost unnoticeable
29dB. DLP projector owners also enjoy lower cost of ownership
and longer projector lifespan thanks to the DLP sealed system that limits
dust, dirt and smoke from entering core parts of the optics.
These
Sharp DLP projectors start up in approximately three seconds. Direct
Power Off lets users unplug and move the projector while controlling
the power for multiple projectors simultaneously by using the room’s
primary power switch in conjunction with the auto restart function.
Each projector includes an intuitive Setup Guide to demonstrate features
interactively, including focus, zoom and height adjustment. These
DLP projectors also include interactive help menus that display commonly
occurring problems, as well as built-in closed caption with black and
white text for easy readability.
Extensive Connectivity
These
Sharp DLP projectors afford a wide array of inputs and outputs for use
in connecting to DVD Players, cable and satellite boxes, laptop and
desktop computers, HDTV tuners, VCRs and video game consoles.
DVI-I and D-sub terminals (in/out) are also provided.
The
PG-F317X model adds a built-in network connection with a RJ-45 LAN Connector
for remote control and access by a Web browser for diagnostics and automatic
e-mail of product status.
The
projectors are backed by a two-year parts and labor limited warranty
including two years of Sharp’s industry-leading 24-hour turnaround
“ER” Express Repair support. The warranty on the user-replaceable
projection lamp is 90 days.

SHARP
BRINGS WIDE XGA RESOLUTION TO ITS HIGH BRIGHTNESS
LCD PROJECTOR SUITE WITH NEW 3-LCD MODELS
LAS VEGAS,
June 18, 2008 – Expanding its Conference/Classroom series of LCD
projectors, Sharp is introducing two new 3-LCD Wide XGA projectors that
are designed for settings that demand flexibility and superior image
quality. The new XG-C455W and PG-C355W feature
3-LCD technology for superior color accuracy
and image detail, WXGA native resolution (1280 x 800) and high brightness
(4,000 ANSI Lumens – XG-C455W and 3,300 ANSI Lumens – PG-C355W)
for a superior picture in virtually any lighting environment.
Extensive connectivity, theft-deterrent capabilities and image detail
via three polysilicon LCDs round out the impressive feature package
of these wide XGA projectors.
“This
conference/classroom projector series is our first wide offering in
the professional LCD projector category, allowing education and business
professionals to display content from the newest generation of WXGA
PCs, for precise and captivating presentations,” said Bruce Pollack,
associate director of marketing, Professional Display Division, Sharp
Imaging and Information Company of America. “This series combines
the latest LCD imaging technology with simplicity, functionality and
low cost of ownership for use in virtually any customer application,
from conference rooms and lecture halls to special events and other
permanent installations.”
Ease of Use and Flexibility
The
new LCD projector series provides simple-to-use features that education
and
business professionals will appreciate,
such as ImageACE Resizing and autoSYNC, which ensure that projected
images are uniform, regardless of signal source. In addition to
the included standard zoom lens, the new projectors offer four optional
lenses making these models adaptable to even the most demanding applications.
With Sharp’s rapid release lens mechanism, lens changes are quick
and virtually effortless. Additionally, convenient side-access
to the lamp and filters ensures easy maintenance, even when the unit
is ceiling mounted.
Superior Image Quality and Connectivity
Providing
an excellent picture for detailed presentations, the XG-C455W and PG-C355W
utilize three polysilicon LCDs for superior, uniform high-quality images
and higher color saturation. In addition to compatibility with
WXGA (1280 x 800) sources, the projectors offer compatibility with standard
RBG and video sources, as well as 720p HDTV for use with current and
next-generation video technologies.
For

asset management and diagnostics. The software minimizes downtime
and expedites maintenance by self-diagnosing system errors, instantly
alerting the control PC or
emailing an error message to a predetermined
list. The projectors also have an RS-232C port for remote control.
Built-In Security
While
easy to operate, the series also has features to discourage theft.
The projectors come equipped with a sturdy “Notevision®
Lockdown” bolt to mount the projector to a ceiling through its optical
block, as well as “key code activation” to prevent unauthorized
operation. Sharp also offers an optional ceiling mount cable lock
system, along with Kensington Lock compatibility.
Low Cost of Ownership and Extended
Warranty
Sharp

SHARP
PROFESSIONAL LCD MONITORS PROVIDE SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY
TO ENHANCE BUSINESS PRESENTATIONS AND IMAGING NEEDS
Sharp Highlights
Customer Applications at InfoComm 2008
LAS VEGAS,
June 18, 2008 – Reinforcing its LCD dominance, Sharp is showcasing
the diverse applications and successful integrations of its Professional
LCD Monitor line at InfoComm 2008. The Sharp® LCD
Monitor line is designed for a variety of professional settings, with
models ideal for both landscape and portrait modes, and industry-leading
specs that maintain Sharp’s strong position in the LCD industry.
“Large
screen-display customers are experiencing lower operational costs, increased
efficiencies and improved business communication with Sharp LCD Monitor
applications in all types of business environments,” said Dan Wynne,
senior director of marketing, Professional Display Division, Sharp Imaging
and Information Company of America. “The superior image quality
and strong reliability of Sharp LCD Monitors lend themselves to numerous
presentation opportunities and vertical business categories including
medical, digital signage, display exhibition, education and many others.”
At
InfoComm, Sharp is highlighting the success and improved workflow that
customers have experienced from Sharp Professional LCD Monitor applications
across different industry sectors. Full case studies are available
upon request. Some examples include:
Medical
Large LCD displays help in delicate
brain surgery
IMRIS, a leading manufacturer of surgical
imaging solutions, teamed with Sharp Professional LCD Displays to help
with delicate brain surgery in the operating rooms at Children's Hospital
of Atlanta, where moveable MRI machines are revolutionizing the way
surgery is performed. Using a technology from IMRIS, MRI images
of the brain can appear within moments on a trio of Sharp 65-inch LCD
monitors on the wall of the operating room. This allows the surgical
team to zoom in on the images while the patient is in the operating
room, display several different views, even quad split them if necessary,
to determine if any of the tumor remains. MRI images of the brain
used to be done prior to surgery to pinpoint a tumor’s location and
then post-surgery to determine if any of the tumor remained. If so,
the patient often went back for surgery a second time. This new
technology from IMRIS allows the surgeon to view the images during the
first surgery, saving money and easing patient suffering.
Green patient room promises faster
recovery, lower costs and environmental benefits
Architect Michael Stack of Anshen+Allen
found through research that a ‘greener’ patient room design can
help people heal faster, increase staff efficiency, and improve a medical
center’s ability to stay open and productive in the face of catastrophic
events, such as the power plant failures that occurred in the wake of
Hurricane Katrina. Such a design using green materials and technologies
can also make a difference in a hospital’s profitability, which of
course is crucial if these institutions are to continue to provide high-level
care. Stack took these concepts and designed a full-scale “green
patient room” prototype that is touring industry trade shows and conventions.
Among other innovations, the prototype includes a medical information
center built around a 46-inch Sharp Professional
LCD display, allowing Anshen+Allen’s green patient room to eliminate
traditional medical charts and replace them with a networked computer
tied to the 46-inch Sharp display on the wall behind the bed.
The room also includes an alcove with a sleeper sofa and work area for
family members, minimizes noise and machinery, and even has an open
air terrace.
Digital Signage
Advertising startup explores alternate
delivery vehicle
In an era where DVRs and plain old channel
surfing encourage viewers to avoid commercial messages, the OnSite Network
has found a way to increase advertising viewership by specific market
segments. The key has been to take advantage of group viewing
dynamics in sports bars, restaurants and other out-of-home venues by
adding content and advertising to broadcast TV feeds. Using a
Sharp flat-panel LCD display, OnSite puts a 7-inch wide strip on the
right side of the broadcast image for additional content and a 5-inch
tall strip along the bottom for advertising. A key insight behind
the concept is that viewers will read, and in a social setting talk
about, written material added to a TV image without losing track of
the main program. That’s what drives the game-time statistics displayed
on ESPN and upcoming stories at the bottom of a CNN screen. Through
this application, OnSite is measurably building viewership and the amount
of time a bar or restaurant patron will spend watching television.
Museum Exhibition
High-definition exhibition brings
tigers to life
Wildlife photographer and filmmaker Carol
Amore is using Sharp’s Professional LCD Monitors to bring her work
to life. Her traveling exhibition preserves the high-definition
clarity of the images she has filmed and captured with such success
that the exhibition immerses the visitor, allowing them to see the wildlife
images in true, realistic form. Amore started her quest in India
in 1999 and has followed five tigers in their natural setting.
She recorded these events in the wild, often from the top of an elephant,
and is bringing them to life at the newly-opened exhibition at the Santa
Ana Discovery Science Center. The exhibition features interactive
activities and beautiful, realistic imagery displayed on Sharp LCD monitors.
The concept of high-definition video is gaining high acceptance in museum
exhibits because of visitor demand, since they often have HD televisions
and home theaters themselves.
Sharp
LCD monitors incorporate several proprietary technologies and features
that ensure unparalleled image quality for a professional presentation
of information and images. The monitors have anti-glare and low-reflection
properties, enabling them to be placed in bright areas where other screens
might appear washed out. Higher contrast lets viewers discern
details they might otherwise miss, particularly when viewing darker
content. 176-degree viewing angles help the monitors display a
crisp picture that can be seen from virtually anywhere in the room.
A Black TFT/Bright Pixel Elimination feature ensures that if a failed
pixel occurs, it is effectively invisible to the viewer.
