Running 4800 on comcast HD box. Box is set to 1080i, 16x9. PJ is set to 16x9 to see HD content correctly. I switch to a non-HD (ie. 4x3) channel and the image is dead square. I tried switching the box to 4x3, changing to 480P on the box, ad nauseum.... WHY would 4x3 content appear SQUARE???

ps. the 4800 rocks for HD and DVD but regular TV looks like utter crap - any hints to optomize regular TV??

I own an X1 and a 4:3 image fills the screen (I have a 4:3 screen) or I use Native AR and the Image is a 4:3 box in the middle. When you say square do you mean that you measured each side and top and bottom and they were of equal length? Regular tv is 4:3 (1.33:1 - 16:9 (HDTV) is 1.77:1).

What shape is your screen? What shape do you expect nonHD (non16:9) material to be?

Sounds like your HD box is set to 16x9 with 4:3 sidebar. This makes SD channels look square. If your HD box supports it, you can switch to zoom or stretch and that will make it fill the screen same as 16x9 HD content.
