The Play Big IN72 will target mainstream consumers. Prices at US$1,299, the projector will feature 480p enhanced definition. The Play Big IN74 is for custom dealers looking to magnify customers’ large-screen viewing experiences including gaming, entertaining and movie nights. The IN74 will provide native 16:9 resolution in the United States as well as in Wide PAL countries. The projector will be priced at US$1,699. For the higher-end of the market, the Big IN76 is priced at US$2,499 and provides native 720p high-definition resolution.

Very cool. Looks like 720p DLP is finally getting closer to 720p LCD prices with the recent price drops and now with Infocus's new offering.

Yep, who wouda thunk it. It won't be as easy as matching prices because LCD is improving quite a bit every year and DLP is just polishing the edges. BY 2008 we'll see 1080p LCD's for $1,499, things sure are looking good for the FP buyer.
Infocus showed dealers the new projectors (with an actual demo of a prototype of the low-end model) at CEDIA Expo last September. They look wonderful.

Eric
Price is right, let's hope they are competitive offer competitive CR to the existing low cost DLPs with lens shift and a nice zoom to match. 5x CW would be nice as well.
Any idea if the $2500 unit is using darkchip or mustang 2+?
There are already three online dealers offering the IN76 for under $2000 and the IN72 for just over a grand!!

They also list the IN76 as 1,000 lumens and the IN72 at 900! :)
From digital_dilemma:

"Uses a 12 element lens and the HD2+ chips. Price of the IN76 may come in $500 less. 20db or less sound. 6 segment 5x color wheel."

Has both M1-DA and HDMI inputs.

BTW, no price listing please.

That was based on the earlier announcements which suggested a $2999 MSRP - it looks like it was true if the MSRP of $2499 mentioned in the latest releases is accurate.
Hmmm...too many threads. 1000L is a tad wimpy for me but the price is right. I'm not certain why they bothered with the IN72 if the discounting is as heavy as suggested for the IN76 but not the IN72.

Nigel
At $2,499, should give Mit. HC3000 a run for the money, and also pressures the MSRP on the Optoma H72, assuming RBE is not an issue.

Knowing how people here love Infocus me included it's going to put a serious beating on any PJ's in price swinging distance. We all know what $2,499 MSRP means, Infocus has shown they understand where the market is, and will sell truck loads of the IN76. I bet there's no one reading these threads that are looking into a 720P dlp that this didn't just jump to the top of their list it has mine and only bad reviews will stop me but I'm about 99.99% that threre won't be many. IF76 @ MSRP of $2,499 nice job Infocus you got my money.

PS:When are they suppose to ship?
If this projector really had 1000 *video calibrated* lumens - and I mean @D65, best contrast ratio calibrated lumens, it would be one of the brightest single chip HT projectors. Of course this won't be the case, most projectors that list lumens in the 800 range end up having less than half that under optimal calibration, when the bulb is brand new. The number I'm still waiting for is claimed CR. Infocus is not the worst offender in advertised video calibrated CR and lumens so I'd be interested in seeing what they claim CR will be. I'm guessing at these prices there will be no iris, so I expect somehwere between 2000:1 - 3000:1 claimed CR - but that's pure speculation.

It's HD2+, but I'm guessing its HD2+ DC2, not HD2+ DC3, like the HC3000U.

Unless something changes at InFocus, the IN76 will not be available online (other than their one authorized online retailer). Only the IN72, just like the current 4805 and 5000, will be available from non-authorized dealers and will be warranted by InFocus.

Futher, there's been no date set for release of any of them.

Infocus is one of the few that does not smudge their numbers. On the 4805, it list @ 2000:1. Krasmuzik on this forum, an authorized dealer and ISF tech, has seen them as much as 2200:1 (DaGamePimp's 4805 for instance). They list the lumens @ 600 - he has seen as much as 650. And yes, these are *video calibrated* specs.

7210 - same story. And they did retract from their initial lumen statement.

Price is nice, but official specs are the only thing that can justify if this is a "good buy" or not. I am hopeful that it will be given inFocus's history, but one never knows.
It'll be interesting to see if "financial pressures" have resulted in any fudging and cutting. Hopefully the new line is worthy of the old Infocus and not a representation of a new Infocus.
