I have had my Infocus SP7205 for a few years now and have loved it

I love the film like quality, the color accuracy and high lumes. I know it is no longer the best but for being 5 years old it has really held its own.

My problem is like other 7205 owners it recently has been giving me some issues (bulb randomly turning off). It is currently in for repair under my extended warranty but this has give me some time to think about what else is out there and what would be the best 1080p upgrade option once it completely dies.

I took a look at some LCD projectors but I can see some motion blur on fast pace scenes so I think I should stick with a single chip DLP and was thinking of something with a dark chip 4.

I saw another thread on the new infocus sp8602 - (sorry cant post itU RLs yet so here is the title "Here it is! The new Infocus SP8602! ") which I see other 7205 owners having issues. This looks like a possible option. Thoughts?

In short I am really looking to hear from other 7205 owners that have happly upgraded to something newer with 1080p which has similar characteristics to the 7205 (film like, good color, high lumes..).

Thanks for your responses.

FWIW

REALLY hoping the 8602 is the answer

(my 7205 gave up the ghost)

I just am not a fan of LCD's. The other projectors that I like are just too much money (and the MSRP of the 8602 is really too much for me right at the moment, but........................ I miss my projector)

I have a 7210 and it works fantastically.

But the time is here to upgrade.

I was seriously considering the Epson 8500, but the inherent flaw

with the red wavy lines has frightened me off, and I am a fan

of DLP and like that format.

So I am hoping the InFocus 8602 will do the trick. AVS has tremendous

pricing on this model, and if interested, you should contact Jason.

A final consideration would be the JVC 15 (DILA), which would be the most

expensive model of the three, but again, AVS has very competitive

pricing for it as well.

I am waiting to hear some first hand reactions to the 8602 and read

a review or two, but right now, that is the front runner.

I wanted to have my new projector up and running by the end of

last year, but my 7210 is still working well and puts out a great

image. But by the spring I hope to be watching a new 1080p projector.

I also had a 7205 and jumped to the 7210 when Woot has a $999 special. The picture was a dramatic change. I've had it in a ded. HT for four years now and have enjoyed every second of it, but......I'm also getting the 1080P bug.....although 1080i isn't bad

thanks for the responses..

I have been wanted to get the 7210 for a while since its is direct step-up and it has a darkchip 2 ... only thing is it still only 720p native.

At this point I am telling myself why not go with a Darkchip 3 or 4 with 1080p.

what are your thoughts on

X10, SP777, IN82 and IN83?

are they the same build quality as the beloved 7205 and 7210? Worth the money?

I use a SP7210 I bought used a few years ago for around $2K, and it's still an amazing PJ to this day. No, it doesn't do 1080P but blu-ray still looks awesome on my smallish 92" silverstar screen and since most of my titles are DVD and we watch 1080i HDTV on it anyway, do I really "need" a 1080P projector?

I'd argue that compared side-by-side with some of the dimly lit 1080P offerings on the market that most people would still choose a SP7210 for it's sizzle.

All of this said, I'll still be first in line to buy a 8602 once I can get a used one for $2K. For me, the 8602's brightness and the throw distance makes it the next logical choice for my (and probably your) application.
