I have been struggling to connect an HTPC to an Infocus X1 via VGA. The problem is that I cannot (without overiding the dialogue box that says "click to hide settings not supported by this monitor") get the projector to recognise an 800x600 50Hz signal.

The nvidia drivers (I'm using the latest drivers) and refresh software will only allow me to reduce the refresh rate to 60Hz which isn't much use for pal dvds. When I reduce the refresh rate to 50 Hz under the monitor settings route outlined above the projector gives a weird resolution of 704x480 with a greatly diminshed picture quality. Needless to say Nvidia customer support is worse than useless on this point. I've also tried using powerstrip and the nvidia custom refresh setting software which don't seem to work either.

Is there an obvious solution to this? If not should I change my video card to a Radeon and, if so, will it output 50Hz via VGA.

Thanks in advance.
