Anyone have a problem with their X1 Projector pulsating in brightness?

My X1 started flickering from bright to dim (image content still there without distortion) after about 70 hours of use. The brightness pulsating can start after being on for 30 minutes, to 1.5 hours, or not flicker at all at times, and when the problem starts it can last anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour.

I sent the unit out for warranty repair and they have had it for 4 weeks and haven't been able to detect the problem.

Any experience with this problem or how good Infocus is making good on their warranty repairs would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I remember reading this might happent when new for a bit. It happens to some because they dont clean the filter and it gets to hot. So other than it getting to hot not sure what it could be.

I suspect the problem is with the cables you are using... this really sounds like either you have one or more poor quality cables or loose connections somehwere from the point the signal leaves your DVD player to your projector. Wiggle them to test so you can at least rule out the possibility.:)

Hello,

I have had exactly the same problem with my X1 'pulsating' at random intervals (I posted my thoughts in another thread).

I know a lot of people think that it may be due to bulb flicker, and that restarting will restrike the arc in a different position. I am not totally convinced of this argument!

My problem has gone away since relocating the power cable.

I suspect that the X1 is susceptable to resonances being set up in its internal power supply, which are induced through the supply cable.

You might like to try this!

I got notification they they were unable to detect the problem and will be sending my unit back.

I guess I will have to see if the problem still exists.

I suspect it is either the bulb or power supply.

I have a colleague that has the same projector so if the problem still exists, I can try some troubleshooting of my own with the bulb and power cord with his projector.

I've been having this same problem too!! Thats why I came online. I must add that until i started having this problem I hadn't cleaned out the filter. This is about after 1500 bulb usage. I think my bulb may be done for.

Before, It pulses then goes out. I wait 1 minute and strike again it works.

Now it starts off bright, dims out, pulses then it goes out.

I think it may be a bulb issue.

There is nothing wrong with your projector.

I had the exact problem with my x1. I called tech support at Infocus and they told me this is typical of the bulbs. The fix is to run your projector for about 8 hours solid. The guy from tech support said this does something like "burn it in". I forget exactly what they said it does to the bulb but ayway it worked and I haven't had the problem since.

Good Luck!

I have had this same problem with two X1's now. My friend, who has a BenQ 6100 has experienced the problem as well. There appears to be three possible causes:

1. A ballast issue. In fact, this is the response I received from InFocus when I inquired why my first X1 was exhibiting the flickering behavior.

2. A power issue. I believe it can also be power related. If your power source isn't very clean, it can cause the ballast voltage to fluctuate and create the aforementioned flicker.

3. A new arc path. As mentioned in a previous post, from time to time, the arc path in the lamp changes. It's normal for this to happen. While the arc path is changing, it's possible for the arc to rapidly switch between the old arc path and the new arc path. The theory goes that this could create said flicker.

Now, my second X1 started exhibiting the behavior at about 1100 hours although it's not nearly as frequent as the first X1 was.

My symptoms never involved the bulb getting dimmer or going out. If that is occurring for you, it sounds like it could be a bulb issue.

Did you recently plug in anything new that could be on the same circuit? If you have a space heater, appliance, etc. on the same circuit, it could be affecting the quality of the power sent to your X1. If this is the case, experiment by turning various things on and off to see if it corrects the flicker.

Try pulling your bulb out and taking it apart and then blowing it out see if and of the silver backing comes out. Mine was doing that and so I did what I just said and it fixed it. Some of the silver was flaking off and the fan blows on it so it was flickering. Unless it a more drastic flicker that very easy to see then its probably somthing that someone else mentioned.
