We recently bought an Inforcus 4800. We are taking it back and forth between Las Vegas and Mexico (we're retired). In Mexico the power is awful. The nominal voltage here is 127v, but our home outlets regularly have voltages of 132 to 137 volts. We have a Del-Tec UPS/Voltage regulator that brings the voltage level down to 119 to 121 ( in the last few days). This is slightly higher than the specs in the Infocus Manual (110 to 120). What effect will the slightly higher voltage have on my projector? Will it do permanent damage, or maybe just make the bulb burn out sooner? (I know nothing about "things electrical".)

If the higher voltage is a problem, can anyone suggest a solution. Although our voltage here in Mexico is usually high, it has also been known to drop to 85 to 95 volts at times. I have been led to believe that is even worse.

So, I am looking for some sort of voltage regulator (I think), that would assure that the voltages presented to the projector are between 110 and 120. I probably can't buy anything like this in Mexico. I tried one of the voltage regulators I bought here, and it actually raised the voltage, because it thought that 127 would be a good thing.

If I buy something in the US, it needs to be small enough to carry on an airlplane, and less than $400 or I will have to pay import fees. Does anyone have any suggestions, or is the current arrangement at up to 121 or 122 volts not really a problem?

TIA for any suggestions.

If the manual states 110-120 is ok then 121-122 is fine. Most specs have a bit of fudge in them. You're probably ok up to ~`130 volts.

There may be an adjustment you can do to the Deltec to set min/max voltages. I know that the APC Smart UPS line has this capability, albeit only via their software.

Thanks for the reply.....

The deltec does have some adjustments, but they are related to the nominal input voltage. So adjusting to the "Mexican standard" of 127, actually increases the voltage output levels. I am hoping that the 121-122 is OK, as it is near the highest input voltage (136) that we have seen on a regular basis. I looked through the specs on the APC products, and some of the ones that might have worked have upper level cutoffs of 130 (input) volts....which is no good here in Mexico.

Thanks, again

I wud think that 120VAC is the nominal delivery standard – even in Mexico – so their 137V peak is way outa line. By all rights, the local utility should be given a chance to modify the delivery to your residence, but I spoze that’s a long shot!

Two hefty Voltage Regulators, which exceed your budget, are

Monster AVS 2000 (80-140V) and Furmansound RA 1220, (80-127V) both @$1450.

Perhaps better for your use is the TRIPPLITE model LCR2400 HERE which covers 87-140V and sells for $336 at partsexpress.com HERE

It weighs 27# and provides some surge protection which the Monster unit does not.
