Purchased a JVC KW-NT1 system along with an Alpine Amp/Sub. Had a friend install it for me yesterday, and we are running into a problem.

Yesterday, we get all the cabling run, etc. When we powered the unit on the first time, nothing was coming out of my speakers. He then pulled the unit back out, and connected a wire in the harness to the amp wire, turned it back on, and poof, it's working.

We connect the sub, turn on the unit, and here's the problem....

The sub is really low. However, it's because all I need to do is barely turn up the volume on the headunit (to like 5) and the regular speakers are loud as crazy. If I turn it up to 10, I can feel the sub hit, but I feel like my regular speakers are about to blow.

Now I'm assuming it's because the regular speakers were connected to the amp, but it wasn't working before he did this. By the way, my car has a "premium" sound system installed stock.

Any suggestions?

If I understand correctly, you have the factory amp being fed the signal from the JVC headunit via speaker connection. Makes me wonder if the premium factory amp was being fed line level and again you are feeding it speaker level. So if this is the case, yes your fullrange speakers are going to be screaming well before your sub starts to move any air.
