Installer for new construction in Charleston, SC

2401 Views 16 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  39CentStamp
Hello everyone, longtime reader and first time poster here.

I am going to be overseeing the installation of a whole-home automation/audio/video system for my boss who is less than technologically inclined. I will be the one dealing with the installer/integrator so I want to be informed enough to speak knowledgeably with the installer.

I have been doing lots of reading (on this board, any other reading recommendations?) and thus far I think he is going to want a Crestron or AMX solution. The build is in the Charleston, SC area. I have been unable to find a list of installers, and I think this needs to be my first step so that I can start the design process. Any suggestions of quality, reliable installers near Charleston?

Thanks,

Jason

Check the Crestron website for local installers.

Prepare to be crapped on, when it isn't exactly what he wants.

Or when he finds out the cost.
Neurodad, I don't think Crestrons website has a find a dealer tool. Did i miss it?

To the OP.. I think the first responders user name is a good sign

Well, its his first post and joined in this month, so it could be one of the DIY Crestron haters that signed up under an alternate email address, just to swing the OP another way :)

i didnt notice that, could be clever 'on the fly' marketing. I just thought it was an interesting/cool coincidence like if someone asked "i am looking for an old US postage stamp" and i showed up

Thanks to those that responded, but we have decided to go with a local Control4 dealer. I'm sure I'll be back to ask some more questions as the planning progresses.

Thanks again,

Jason
Where did we lose you Jason? The force was very strong with you...

Sorry to disappoint guys, been doing automation for about 10 years now, and not a "DIY Crestron Hater", I run the design side of an integration company and have experience with AMX, Crestron, and Savant systems. I am not going to lie, it took a business opportunity to make me cross the line from lurker to participant on this forum but I hope to become an asset to this community. Either way, i am happy to be here and hope I have time to stop in and meet some of you next Friday at the Cedia Party. Cheers.
Well, i'm flying in late Wed night, and plan to be heavily hung over for the Fri night party...

Welcome CP. Until it was pointed out i thought it was just good fortune/ coincidence that a Charleston Pro showed up when someone needed a Charleston Pro

The good party is the Integration Pros party on Thurs nite!
alas, those of us who are DIY'ers simply there to lend a helping hand will gaze longingly at it from afar...
As greg knows, I was wrong, I can get into the ***************.com party on Thu night if I just wave a bottle of sambuca around. I'll see you guys there!
39 Cent, the cause was lost as soon as I found out that a Crestron system with the stuff we want was gonna run about $100k+. We are going to go with Cinema-Quest out of Greenville, SC. This makes our planning meetings easier as that is where we are located. Interesting that this thread is still alive!

Jason
Thanks for the response jay3712, Good luck with your system and feel free to post pics. Some of us are addicts and we need our fix
