Does black faced Insulshield look good enought to be left exposed? I'm debating various ceiling construction methods, and was wondering if I could just build my ceiling from black insulshield, over the ceiling joists.

The ceiling is pretty low (slightly higher than 7') and I've heard that an absorbant ceiling gives the illusion of height (i.e. fewer reflections). Most debates seem ambivalent about ceiling treatment since it's above our ears anyway, but I've seen recommendations that the underside of soffits be treated.

Any advice is always appreciated.

I wouldn't do it. Insulsgield is very fragile. The hard face tears very easily. It will attract dust and you won't be able to clean it without damaging it.

Plus I would be concerened about fibers breaking loose. Fabric will hold most of this at buy but I would not use any fiberglass product exposed to a room.
