Interesting Comment in HT magazine

1467 Views 10 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  wildfire99
In this months issue of HT magazine there is a very nice theater with a digital cinema unit the comment was made that they didn't want to use an anamorphic lens assembly because: "the problem with the other approach- anamorphic lenses-is they make square pixels rectangular, so the pictures geometry is never correct. I work with directors and movie professionals ,and they don't want that. They want to see the image with correct picture geometry."

Have I missed something or has Bradford Wells ?

Yeah--I saw that too!!! I read that, and immediately his credibility went out the window. Who cares whether the pixel size is square or rectangular? It is the IMAGE that is important. If this is what he is telling people, then he's feeding them a load of crap.
Actually you are correcting the image with a lens. First your scaler stretches the image allbeit still square pixels but a distorted image then the lens make that image correct with rectangular pixels. All you have left is a fantastic image.

I am not surprised to find that people at Home Theater Mag. don't know what they are talking about. Certainly is not the first time.

What's sad is that the people who read the magazine will then be mislead thinking these people KNOW.
My point was that Bradford Wells ,one of the purported gurus of uber home theater design and consulting, made that comment.

The new product is called the Tessalator, and it chooses pixels shape based upon 20 criteria chosen by the director. Popular shapes are hexagons and "swan shape 1".
Saw that too!

But, that 15' wide screen is pretty sweet..

Shame on him. He should do some research...

It's a good thing he doesn't know about source material recorded on formats with non-square pixels to start with... like DVDs.
