Those are not rumors TTA89, they are facts.
The FCC granted the liscence for both companies to operate under the condition that they would eventually make units that support BOTH services.
The real question is WHEN those type units will hit the streets. 2 years sounds right, but it might sooner or later. No one knows. BUT THEY HAVE TO DO IT, WITHOUT QUESTION.
With regards to the O&E and Stern debate, to each their own. I like Stern over O&E, but like another poster said, if O&E were on in the afternoon(like they were in NYC on 102.7 FM) I would listen to both. But since they compete head to head, Stern just wins hands down for me.
Also, I asked this question in another thread which I do not think can be answered.
We all know that XM has 2.6(soon to be 3) million subscribers. I wanted to know HOW MANY people actually subscribe to the O&E service? How many people ACTUALLY LISTEN to their show?
We all know it is NOT 2.6 million. They are not for everyone(neither is Stern of course). I would like to see the numbers, but I don't think XM releases that type of info. They may not have it, or are afraid to release it. O&E may not be as popular as people think, especially since it is a PAY EXTRA channel. I would not be surprised if the number is low, and by all accounts, a "POOR" rating if you will.
As Stern's air date draws closer, you may see XM drop the "pay" part of that channel and place it on their normal lineup(Just like Sirius is doing with Stern's show). This will be GREAT for XM subscriber's not to have to pay extra for that show.
Then we would get an idea(maybe) of how many people actually listen to it. We would get a head to head(with no excuses from anyone) matchup and see who is more popular.
