I'm busy putting the finishing touches on my new basement HT. As a concession to my wife, I built everything into a wall to be out of the way. I suffered some in sound, but it's better than not having an HT. Anyway, that's not what I stumbled onto and wanted to share.


I'm at the point where I have the front wall mostly complete. The firring strips are up, the Linaccoustic is glued on, and the 100" Firehawk is temporarily mounted. I also painted the firring strips black. Of course, at this point I get impatient, and I want to try it out, but my wife is choosing fabric colors. Personally, I wanted all black on the front wall for the best image quality, but my wife was not happy with that one. The best part is that everything changed once she saw how great the picture was when the front wall was completely black vs. some combination. The black and tan might tlook better with the lights on, but all black was wonderful with the lights off.


The moral of the story is before you choose fabric colors for your front wall, sample the picture with only the linaccoustic up. You will be amazed at the difference. The difference was so great that my wife immediately turned to me and told me to forget about all her colors. We're going with all black in front.

My wife is happy. I'm happy. Life is good! Even my mother said forget the colors. Go with black. This is a woman who keep asking why would I ever want to have 100" screen. Isn't the 27" TV with no surround sound plenty.


Maybe I should have setup the speakers and everything before mounting everything in the wall? I'd probably be pushing my luck on that one.

I'm starting to look at fabrics to cover the screen wall, and asked the wife last night "should we do two colors, e.g. black and purple, so it looks nicer?" her response, "its your room, do what you want, you said you wanted all black, so you should just do all black".


Good thing some wives appreciate HT.... or at least our space.

Isn't that the best? Last week my wife floored me with the statement "I wouldn't worry about how hard it is to remove the speakers or equipment. When we move, you should sell everything with the house and build another HT with all new stuff in the new house. After all, half the fun is researching the gear and building the space." I knew there was a reason I married her!

Hey, just thought I'd let you know, never ignore the wife but at least let her voice an opinion!! Good Luck with the project, I am about 6 months away yet and can't wait to show my first movie!!
