DX11 and why we "might" not care...

http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news...dont-care.aspx

I almost agree 100% with the article. Yes there are diff's between DX9 and DX10. But when I get really into a game, I forget thats its 9 or 10 or even 8 if the game is good. Only time I try to notice diff's are in benchies.

That is a good article.

I fell for the hype surrounding DirectX 10 before Windows Vista arrived to the market. Developer implementation of it has gone well below my expectations, and I came to realize that DirectX 9's feature set has been well prepared in providing us with exceptional visuals that can be rendered with excellent efficiency. Even the upcoming id Tech 5 engine will be confined to DirectX 9 and OpenGL with no option for DirectX 10 (unless modified by the developer).

But, of course, graphics cards need to be upgraded mostly on the basis of increasing raw rendering power (rather than API support).

Well first off dx9 vs dx10 became a complete joke if you ask me. Marketing BS to push vista which clearly failed. Oh remember how it couldn't even run dx10 under XP. Then get to the actual difference in the game. Sure there are slight differences but even now the performance hit you take for what you see worthless. When you're flying around or running in games do you really even see that tiny improvement in detail or shadow or whatever the case may be, nope. If you stand still and look around maybe, but who really does that...dx10 has been a complete joke if you ask me.

DX11 I hope at least brings something to the table but I won't be holding my breath. So yea if it turns out like dx10 no one will care about dx11 either.

I didnt/dont care about DX10 so I stuck with W2k/XP. I don't care about DX11 either but I do want a mature Media Center so I am taking the step towards Windows 7...which means I'll get DX10+ whether I like it or not.

They base a bit too much of their belief around the wii imo. It's a hit because the wii mote caught casual gamers fancy and soccer moms feel less guilty putting little johnny in front of one of those over a killem all gaming unit. If it would have been HD imo it would have sold even more, not less by any means.

DX10 failed becuase it wasn't in the end better to any extent. DX11 will live or die based upon how good the games are that support it. It doesn't imo have to deliver better graphics, but faster graphics. Face it, it will have to deliver one or the other or it's another fail. What would be the point of it?
