A while ago I posted a thread asking what other people were doing for an enclosure for their plate amp or whatever for their THT. Originally I built a plain, somewhat lop-sided and nowhere near perfect 12x12x12 box for my Dayton 240W plate amp.
I got tired of it looking so boring and discombobulated on top of my Bic sub so I decided to spruce it up a little. Someone had suggested to make a small scale THT out of the box for the plate amp. Since my cuts were from scrap wood, the box never fit well, and I didn't really care. But when trying to make it look like it's larger brother I fell a bit short...even the sharpie didn't help and I didn't feel like cutting an opening...how embarrassing for both the box and myself.
I had to cover up my mistakes before someone saw them. (BTW those pics above never happened...) I had some extra fabric from upholstering some headliner parts in my car and decided to see if it could make my THTBuddy beautiful....Things started off well too.
Now noone knows if my cut for the terminal plate is crooked or if it's just the fabric! Genius!
Cutting and folding corners on the front piece
And the finished product...Took a good few hours to get it all taken care of. I sprayed the top and sides with 3M adhesive I got from Pep Boys or the like when I did my headliner. Lining up this pattern was difficult, but I wasn't aiming for a perfect run. On the back side I simply stapled the fabric around the edges and cut off the excess.
Overall I'd say it came out great. If I were to do it again I would probably drape the fabric over the entire thing and cut out the pieces all at once so I could try to match things up as good as possible. This wasn't a hard job, but interesting enough to make dinner completely slip my mind for 4 hours.
I thought about doing the whole THT in some sort of fabric but the edges would have to be perfect, and that would have to be one big piece of fabric. Looks like I'll go the truck bedliner route when it gets warmer out. Anyway... comments/questions welcome, or show off what you've done to your THT Buddy!
