I want to put up an Outdoor IP camera to monitor the front and side door. I can install it underneath an eave and would be able to monitor both if the field of view is good.

The line of site from the eave to the front door is almost a straight line ( 15-25ft) and the side door at a slight angle (10-15ft) to the right of where the IP camera would be.

I have looked at Axis,ACTi,Vivotek and Hikvision. Just wanted to get your opinions on the matter.

Don't need PTZ

IR required

720p atleast,1080 would be great

Either a bullet or Dome would be ok.

Seems that 2.8 mm lens would give me the greatest coverage?

Will be using Blue Iris or Sighthound (vitaminD) sofware and using my Synology DS214play for storage.

I only need one camera,so looking at $250 +/- for the camera

Give me your suggestions. Thanks

What are you going to do for power to the cameras? I too have looked into various camera solutions and it seems to me the best way to achieve putting a camera wherever you want and getting power to it is to do PoE or power over ethernet. This requires a camera that supports it (many do) and a power over ethernet switch (you can get small ones that aren't too expensive) and then running the cable/mounting the camera.

I bought a Hikvision for testing at work. We have A LOT of cameras and currntly use $1700 each Axis Cameras. I'm really impressed with the Hikvision. It does [email protected] Has built in IR. This is the model I bought.

I think its what i'm going to be installing at my house. Also software wise, check out Milestone Xprotect, They have a free version that supports 8 cameras and up to 5 days of recording. The paid version is around $99 for 2 camera setup. The software blows any other software away feature wise.
