IR Control for Kenwood VR 4900

1581 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  citico
I have a Kenwood VR 4900 and I just got a Harmony 670 remote that I would like to use with it. The receiver came with an RF remote and the Harmony is only IR and does not work.

But after some searching I found out that Kenwood did make an add on IR reciever for it which has long since been discontinued. After more searching I found out that someone from AVS had successfully used a $30 Xantech 291-00 HiddenLink with this receiver. However, the cheapest I can find it for shipped is about $60 and I think I would also have to buy an AC adaptor which adds to the cost.

So my question is does anyone know a cheaper solution? If I have to spend $75 just to make my remote work then I would consider upgrading my receiver instead.

If no one has any other solutions for how to do IR with the VR4900, then how about some suggestions on a new receiver.

Here is the equipment list of what will be hooked up.

Pio 5070hd

Tosh XA-1

360

PS3

Wii

SA Explorer 8000HD

Klipsch Reference Series

Front 8"x2

Rear 5.25"x2

Center 6.5"x2

Sub M&K 12"

I would like to get the most out of my Tosh XA-1 and help the Klipsch to sound as good as possible. So I need a few hdmi's and would like some of that HD sound stuff too. Price range would be less than $800. Which I know might be hard to do but any suggestions are appreciated.

If anyone comes up with a cheaper IR solution though please do share. Thanks.

EDIT: Looks like I have found a cheaper alternative so no new receiver for me yet. Thanks anyway.

I have the same problem. I have a Kenwood VR-4900 receiver and just bought a Harmony 670 remote. I contacted Logitech/Harmony and they said I need to switch the receiver from RF to IR. What solution did you come up with? I really would apprecite the help!

The Harmony 890 0r the 1000 models are IR or RF and you can buy the RF extender and hide the equipment.
