I've got a JVC G11 / Quadscan PRO / Panamorph. I've used Dilard to adjust some of the G11 inputs to change their aspect ratios. This works really well, but changing inputs on the fly using a Pronto is a real pain, and the IR seems to be quite unreliable. I do not use an HTPC, so using Dilard form a PC to send the control codes to the serial port is not an option.

Is anyone aware of an IR to Serial device that will receive IR commands and output RS232 to the projector's serial port? Preferablly programmable, but even there are 256 ir codes (1 for each ASCII char) it would work.

I have the JVC technical document on their control codes, and it looks some some simple codes to select inputs.

Thanks!

Okay... Here goes..

It is as always much easier to go the other way... but hey, cant win them all

The piece you want is made by Xantech, they are the only one I know of that will go the other way..

It is a IR to RS232 module. But I must warn you it, like any other IR crap has the same intrinsic IR problems.

PM me if you need more details.

Check out the Ocelot , especially if you're the techno-hobbyist type.

Once you map the IR-->RS232 codes, they are permanently stored in this little box (no computer required). When it receives an IR command, it spits out the associated RS232 code. You can actually get quite sophisticated, from what I understand, and build entire macros and other programming logic into the box.

Disclaimer: I've never owned one, but had dreams of building a "calibration in a box" out of the Ocelot that would contain all the logic to perform a projector calibration via RS-232 when a specified IR command comes in.

Unfortunately, I could not determine from the documentation that the programmability was that powerful and passed on the idea. It looks interesting, though.

Thanks for the feedback so far! The Xantech module is expensive -- it looks it lists for $529; street price around $375.

The Ocelot is around $199, and definitely looks like it can do what I need, plus has x10 control as well -- I use X10 to control the power to my amps and Quadscan, so it would fit in nicely. I'm a programmer, so the Ocelot looks like it would be some fun to play with.

Mark -- I must say that Dilard has totally transformed my viewing experience with its ability to reprogram the G11's aspect ratios. VERY well worth the cost!

I'm still interested in hearing more options if anyone knows of any.
