Is 50ms lag on LG 55LH90 normal?

I recently got an LG 55LH90. Having read about the lip sync issue with older firmwares I wasn't too surprised when I looked for video delayed w.r.t. audio and noticed it happening when people are speaking. The delay is relatively minor (50ms) but without prompting my wife noticed it within 10 minutes of viewing.

To clarify, in my setup my sources are connected separately to the audio receiver than the TV. My TiVo connects via component/optical to the receiver then to the TV. My PS3 connects via HDMI to the TV and optical to the receiver.

I called LG and they asked me to look at the firmware version in the service menu using the Menu-Menu trick. This did not bring up the service menu which, after reading on the web, seems to indicate a newer firmware that should address the lip-sync issue. Today a technician came to upgrade the firmware and sure enough, he 'updated' it from 3.13.1 to 3.13.1. So I am left with the TV still having this minor delay that our previous LCD didn't have.

From reading on the web it seems like the newer TVs with all the fancy video processing introduce some delay that we are expected to compensate for.

I started looking at other high-end TVs and noticed the same very slight video lag in a friend of mine's home theater, and he had hired a company to put it together.

My question is: Are other LG 55LH90 owners with 3.13.1 firmware finding that they too have to add audio delay when routing audio and video separately from the sources to the TV and receiver? Or is it just my TV? Would a newer firmware version help? I still have a couple of weeks in which I can return the TV.

Other than this issue the TV has been great! And even knowing the problem is there it is still hard to notice it. The technician could not see it at all.

there are 2 ways to fix this problem

Buy a blu-ray player that can adjust the audio delay, my Sony S360 does this and if your TV has HDMI lip sync support the TV will actually tell the player to delay the audio by x amount for the picture mode your using, my Toshiba 40xv645u tells my player to delay audio by 60ms when i have 120hz and the motion enhancer active and i have no lip sync problems with watching blu rays

if your TV does not support this (i bet it does though being such a high model set) then you can manually adjust the delay from 0-120ms on this player but the annoying thing is it will not stick so you have to adjust it every time

other option is to buy a receiver that will do the same exact thing with HDMI sources

No it is most definitely not normal...and let me give some hope to those afflicted...I bought my 55LH90 last year from BestBuy..apparently it was so popular (see Consumer Reports) that they ran out of them, and when I noticed the lip sync issue, I attempted to exchange it for another one without it... that process FAILED, and after several months, I started calling LG. They told me i would get a software update to the 3.04 that I had in my July 09 build, never got it..told me I lived too far from an authorized service center to have a tech visit...and so, after months of wrangling, they (LG) agreed to outright replace the TV with a brand new one from their warehouse as a manufacturers defect..BestBuy wasnt involved at all thank Gawd... Im leaving out months of ANGSTover this, including the certified letter to the President of LG...

The NEW 55LH90 was finally delivered and actually hung on a custom wall rack while I simply stood and watched..LG uses a "specialty" delivery service for this I found out.

Now to the good part...my NEW 55LH90 is a JAN/10 build!!!!!! the thing is brand spanking new...and doesnt have the LIP SYNC issue!!!!!...also you can add labels to the Inputs, which I dont think the old one could.

Ive applied the old calibrations to the new TV, and i think I may need to tweak it a tad more, since they seem to vary from set to set.

I have one HUGE question, which I believe will be of interest to all when YOU folks help me get an answer...the old access to the service menu ...menu/menu/0000 doesnt work on this build date..I REALLY want to find out what firmware version I have...show me how to find it, and i can tell you all what theyre up to...this set is as new as it gets IMHO...

Does your receiver have audio delay settings? If so then use it to fix the problem.

No need to go into the service menu... just go to menu and highlight Options (but don't select it) and press the 1 button on your remote 7 times; it should bring up a software update screen showing you your current version and "update version". I have a January 2010 build and it worked for me. I have firmware v3.17.0. Not sure if you can actually update the firmware this way. Maybe if you connect your TV to the internet via cat5 cable, it will find the newest version available and you can update it.

For owners with older build dates, keep in mind that sometimes manufacturers release firmware updates specific to a certain batch of TV's. 3.13.1 might be the latest firmware for your particular batch while 3.17.0 is for the newer batch. Not saying that's the case, but Samsung does this sometimes.
EXCELLENT!!! it works...and its also 3.17.0!! noticed awhile back there was some question as to that number actually existing...it does, and clearly that screen would also allow for downloading of future updates.. and although i've only had this replacement 2 days, Im happy as a clam with it!!!! no LIP SYNC!!!!..has anyone noticed any new features, other than the input labeling???

That's another issue. My Sony receiver has an A/V Sync function that is supposed to deal with this but the only options are Yes and No. No way to specify actual time delay AFAICT.

Anyone aware of decreased video lag between 3.13.1 and 3.17? Also, where do you check the build date of the TV?
Cant speak to decreased lag between 3.13.1 and 3.17, because the orig HAD the problem with 3.04 and the replacement with the 1/10 build date and 3.17 doesnt...The date is on a placard on the back of the set, along with the serial number...it was also on the carton I believe..
