at the same time? Here's what I want to do: I now have the dvd player hooked directly to the tv. When my 45tx arrives, I want to hook the coax/optic audio to the receiver so that the wife can use the dvd as it is now & I can also use it via the receiver? Is this possible? If so, what do I select in the dvd setup menu?

How does the dvd player recognize which signal to send? Do I have to select something in the players setup menu?

In my experience, the player does not recognize any needed signal, it simply sends the signal to each possible output. On some players- like the Pioneers- you can turn the digital audio off and on via the menu. This, however, does not affect the analog outs which are always available.
