Just wondering if any one is not happy with or dislikes the 50V500...

Nearly all the post are very favorable towards the 50V500 apart from mine and now I think that I was wrong thinking it was a lesser set than the Phillips LCoS and Sammy DLP... Should I have another look at this set??

What kind of concerns are you having? I don't think many people actually have the set in their homes yet to give it a true evaluation. It sounds like it is a very good TV though.

I'm actually really leaning towards getting the Cineos but with one last look around at the other sets I noticed that there nearly no people who think that the 50v500 is a bad set QU wise, I know its a little lacking in inputs but soon there will be DVI switching receivers and presto problem solved.

I have not seen the Sammy, Cineos and Hitachi all together I went and saw them all on the same day (different stores)... I did not play with the Hitachi for long I got very frustrated with its stretched modes.. I could not get a 16:9 DVD LOTR to stretch with out looking very stretched or having a lot of the edges cut off... It just seemed so noticeable that I could look past that...

So I'm not sure if I should give the Hitachi one last look at and that’s why I am wondering if anyone has issues with the set, cause if not the I really should give the TV another look...

I did not like the Panny quite as much... when compared the Cineos and the Sammy there was a GWII and Panny not too far off and IMO the PQ was not quite as good... I'm sure it is a good set but I did not look at it too long due to the form factor

While I hear some of your comparisons between the Panasonic and the others (Sony GW, Samsung, Hitachi), it really should not be compared as a true apples-to-apples comparison because the price difference between the Panasonic and the others is MASSIVE - like $1000.

NONE of the three other sets can be had in my neck of the woods (Philly) for under $3000 - while I got the Panny on a Sears price match for less than $2300 - just TOO big of a difference to ignore. If you are ALL about picture quality, and the price/performance value that the Panasonic provides is not enough to overcome the picture quality issues that you seem to have with the Panasonic, then I wish you luck with your choice. For me, the price/value provided by the Panny made it an EASY choice.

bebop,

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the panny is bad, it's not, it a good set... All I said was it was not quite as good as the others... And the main thing I did not like about the Panny was the Form Factor not the QU...

Enjoy your set, you do have a very good one.

I agree with Vivid on the Panny LCD. I have seen that set at least 4 times in the last few weeks and it doesn't impress me. The first one I saw was broken with a flashing LED on the power button.

So are you saying that he should overlook the short comings because it costs $700 less? I notice that several RP CRT's have a much richer and sharper PQ without the screen door that can be had for under $2K. So I guess this could apply.." If you are ALL about picture quality, and the price/performance value" Some of these sets have dual DVI and firewire with built in tuners. Many of us still wont look at them because of different factors like technology, size, weight color and so on.

Its amazing how subjective all this is. Something that looks stunning to me may look bad to you. It just the nature of HT and how we perceive it to be.

Many people love their Panny LCDs, Please enjoy your new toy. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for my toy. So you are getting to experience HD and I am not! :(

OK...lets keep with apples-to-apples comparisons - NOT RP CRT's...fair?

If you can show me where any one of the three TV's other than the Panasonic mentioned above (Hitachi LCD, Sammy 507, Cineos 55") for under $3000 in the Philly market, I might actually consider making the switch (Hitachi - $3300 at Sears...not carried at BB or CC yet...and the Sammy and Cineos are both at that price point as well)....and it's not like this forum has been SWAMPED with receipts from people who have gotten deals on the Sammy, Cineos or Hitachi like it has been on the Panasonic.

Look - I'm not trying to rag on a decision to spend more money on a set. That's why some people buy plasma. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion. The nice thing is that ALL of these sets have their strengths and their supporters on this forum (and with good reason). All that I am saying is that - for me - the $2300 price point (particularly on a product that we ALL know will see HUGE price deflation over then next two or three years) is a MAJOR plus, and something that I factored HEAVILY in my decision.

That's all.

Why were you stretching LOTR.

I find a slightly stretched image more pleasing than seeing the true aspect ratio and seeing 1/8" of misalignment at the top and bottom of the screen and I don't think there is a TV that I don't see that on...

Interesting. There are some actors that would like everybody to feel like you do -- taller and trimer.
