I was told carpet is best for bass but does that rule apply to downfiring ports?

I have a SW with downfiring ports and to me I have found a hard surface is better than carpeting. Really though, it is minimal.

is is 40 feet thick? bass wavelengths are very long and tend not to be be affected by small obstacles hence why down firing even works (the baffle is a small obstacle) Try that with a tweeter and you'll lose your high's.

I have a sw with down firing woofer and I find a hard surface underneath reflects more bass. It is probably just the crappy room I'm in because what the above posters stated is true about bass.

It's not really going to matter. Probably less than 1% between the two. Like Kyle said, very long wavelength means they can curve around objects without any issues. 3/4'' long strands of carpet won't even be a factor really. If anything carpet will absorb any higher frequency noise (pops or clicks) that the sub might produce.
