HDMI ARC is bidirectional. Can it both send and receive simultaneously?

Example:

Soundbar has HDMI IN (chromecast) and HDMI OUT (to TV ARC port). So one HDMI cable between receiver and TV.

When watching broadcast TV, soundbar source is TV ARC.

When watching Chromecast, is it theoretically possible to keep soundbar source as TV ARC? This would mean that the soundbar is sending audio and video to TV thru HDMI OUT, but also receiving the same audio back thru the ARC channel. Means that I would not ever have to change the soundbar source when switching between tv and chromecast.

This sounds kind of silly now that I have it written out coherently... lol. But I'm still curious. Can any of you gurus comment?

From reading this , I'd say it should work if the Chromecast is connected to another TV HDMI input, not the sound bar. TV acts as "audio hub" with audio coming into the TV going back out the HDMI ARC connection. I doubt the sound bar is sending audio from the Chromecast to the TV, it's just sending the video and processing the audio in the sound bar.

I think you just want to connect it the way you have it.

Connect all of your sources to the TV, and let the soundbar get its audio input from the TV.

Use the TV to select the source.

You can also just connect the optical output of the TV to the soundbar.

Not getting a video signal through the receiver to the TV ("no source") is often caused by deficient HDMI cables. Make sure they are all certified High Speed cables. Standard Speed cables can't carry 1080p reliably. They don't have to be expensive "boutique" cables, though.

Also, make sure the cables are fully seated. Push on the connectors at both ends of the cables. HDMI connectors can look like they're in all the way even when they aren't.

Ok I have replaced hdmi cable and I'm getting all components to work now . The only issue I have now is I must power on my receiver first to get everything to work . My wife at times only wants to listen sound through tv speakers so when she turns on tv it says no source so she has to turn on receiver first but then can turn off and tvs/sat to work . In that order . why does this happen , I'm guessing avr doesn't work both ways only after receiver is on first to feedback video , then stays on after receiver powered off. I wish my cable box had another hdmi out so I could go directly to hdmi on my tv to shut her up. I told her go to bedroom to watch tv as I want to hear all my audio through my denon .
