Hello,

I'd like to upgrade my LP350 to something better for HT application (DVD, HDTV...). My criteria would be :

Usable in a dimmed light ambient (not fully dark) -> 2000 Lumen?

I can display still digital pictures from my computer -> XGA

Less noisy than the LP350

Much more contrast than the LP350 -> is 1/800 good enough ?

Good video -> DCDi or something equivalent?

Full compatiblity with NTSC and PAL DVD and HDTV interfaces,

Component input for my prograssive scan DVD player (philips Q50),

If possible, a DVI interface...

Up to $3200

What do you think about the Infocus LP650, or Mitsubishi XD350U ???

Any other good option ?

Thanks for your help.

NBRemond-

I just finished demoing the LP650, and unfortunately, while it is a very nice projector, I can't recommend it for HT use at its current pricepoint. I would say the X1 is a far better value. The perception of better contrast on the X1 is the killer between the two, in my opinion.

The LP650 is brighter, no question- but I didn't notice as big a difference as you might expect. Also, the LP650 was definitely louder than the X1. Not by much, but louder. You may want to consider the NEC LT260. It may be just what you're looking for.

Thanks for your reply.

The LT260 seeems a very good choice. But what about DCDi ? Is it major weakness of the NEC, or is the internal NEC processing as good as the Faroudja DCDi ?

And also the bulb life time is only 1500h to 2000h... but maybee the bulb is cheaper... I'll check that.

I have another question: can the NEC projector stay in standby mode 24/7 when not in use ?

Thanks in advance

Bernard
